PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Gordie Green (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jonathan Marx (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Marx has chosen Ramstein - Du Hast as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters really staring eachother down here, as Jonathan Marx enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gordie Green!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jonathan Marx!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Jonathan Paton and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marx fails with an attempt to clinch.
Green tries for a takedown but Marx sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Green changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Marx looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Green looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Marx is avoiding damage well.
Marx struggling a bit here.
Marx is looking for a sweep.
What's Marx going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle.
Marx tries to improve position but can't.

Green stands up.
Green misses with a low kick.
The fight stays on the outside here - Marx looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Green looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Green shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Marx but Marx pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Green has Marx pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Marx manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Green's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Green darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Marx is staying active underneath Green, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Green perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Green thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Marx's head.
Green working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Green lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Green is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Marx is looking to escape.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Marx avoids a kick to the body.

Green closes the distance and pushes Marx back into the cage.
Marx gets underhooks to prevent Green's takedown attempt.

Marx comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.

and Green counters with a nice double leg into side control. Marx won't be happy with that.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Green wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Marx, who protects the arm well.
Green is breathing heavily.
Marx manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

and Green counters with a nice double leg into side control. Marx won't be happy with that.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

enabling Green to counter with a crisp jab.

Green tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Marx was well out of range. Poor timing from Green.

Green throws a series of punches but Marx avoids them all with ease.

Green clinches.
Marx lands a nice elbow.
Green wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Green can't get the takedown.

Green escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Gordie Green seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Green rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Marx moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Green tries to land a front kick but Marx steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Green shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Green showed some decent athleticism there.

Green digs a right hand into Marx's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Marx's gas tank.

Green ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Green no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Marx got a little sloppy there for a moment and Green has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Marx has managed to get both his arms back between Green's legs - danger averted.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Green is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Green pulls Marx in close to prevent any damage.
Marx stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Green swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Green is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Marx can do to turn this around?

Gordie Green showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Green, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
