The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Recruit tries to close the distance and clinch up but Savage swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Recruit throws a right hand that Savage ducks under and follows up with a left that Savage also avoids with ease.
Savage takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Recruit misses with a series of wild punches.
Recruit shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Savage throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Recruit was covering up waiting for the punch and Savage finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Savage postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Savage throws a strike but Recruit rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Savage is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Savage has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Recruit tries to close the distance and clinch but Savage swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Savage clinches up with Recruit and pushes him back against the cage.

Savage tries to roll over but Recruit keeps him under control.

Savage bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Recruit's guard.

Savage throws and elbow that misses. Recruit uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Savage's guard. Nice move by Recruit!

Savage had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Recruit defends it easily.

Savage throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Recruit escapes and throws Savage's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Savage swings around for an armbar but Recruit sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Savage's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Savage is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
