Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Vener Galiev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bobby Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bobby Johnson struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 146.9lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Bobby Johnson has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Bobby Johnson! The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Vladimir Khabensky and Viktor Lagutenko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice body kick from Galiev. Johnson looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Johnson just misses with a punch to the body.
Johnson takes a head kick and keeps coming.
A head kick from Galiev lands but Johnson takes it in his stride. Galiev lands with a kick to the ribs.
Galiev throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Johnson's head. Vener Galiev seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Galiev looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Johnson! Galiev looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Galiev looking to secure an arm triangle but Johnson defends it well. Johnson defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Galiev. Galiev is trying to control here but Johnson has managed to regain half guard.

Galiev wants to pass the guard but Johnson is defending well. Galiev seems to be working for a kimura but Johnson defends the submission attempt. Galiev trying to mount his opponent but Johnson defends it. Galiev looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Galiev works his foot free and advances to mount. Galiev looking to finish Johnson with some ground and pound. This is bad for Johnson!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Galiev is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Johnson can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Galiev looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Galiev unloads with some shots from mount but Johnson bucks and avoids them well.
Johnson wants to control but Galiev is having none of it. Johnson is wriggling around trying to escape.

Galiev pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Galiev goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Johnson turns into him and now he's in Galiev's guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Johnson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Galiev keeping moving, preventing Johnson from controlling successfully. Galiev has his foot on Johnson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Johnson works his way back into a safe position though. Galiev wants to sweep here but Johnson controlling him for the moment. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Galiev is working hard here to advance position. Johnson stands up and waves to Galiev to follow him. Johnson misses with a kick to the body and Galiev counters with a body kick that stops Johnson in his tracks momentarily. Galiev closes the distance and clinches. Galiev connects with a knee to the head.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Galiev gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. Galiev drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Galiev jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Johnson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Galiev gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Galiev passes into half guard. Johnson avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Galiev. Galiev prevents Johnson from improving his position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Galiev is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Galiev throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Johnson tries to hold on but Galiev postures up. Galiev lands a big shot there that rocks Johnson but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage! Johnson is squirming around, avoiding Galiev's attempts to control the action. Galiev working for a submission but Johnson is keeping him at bay. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Vener Galiev dominated that round. That's time! Galiev's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Galiev closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Johnson tries to improve position but can't. Galiev thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Galiev is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Johnson knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Galiev working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Galiev is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Johnson has escaped the position, nice work there. Galiev tries to advance to mount but Johnson denies him. Johnson is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. Galiev passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Johnson! Galiev tries to control but Johnson wriggling away. Galiev looking to secure an arm triangle but Johnson defends it well. Poor strikes thrown by Galiev there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Galiev thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Johnson's head. Johnson trying to hold on to Galiev's head to control him but Galiev postures up.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Galiev scores with a sloppy right hand. Johnson should have avoided that one. Johnson wants to clinch but Galiev slips to the side and Galiev makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Johnson really felt that one! Johnson doesn't succeed with the takedown and Galiev counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena. Johnson moves in looking to clinch but Galiev pushes him off. Galiev misses with a body kick. Johnson tries to land a front kick but Galiev steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Galiev takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. Johnson tries for a takedown but Galiev circles away easily and Galiev counters with a slapping leg kick. Galiev blocks the body kick.

Galiev fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Johnson on the side of the head. Galiev scores with a spinning back kick! Galiev gets a takedown into half guard. Galiev thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Galiev is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Galiev not landing any meaningful shots this time. Galiev is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Vener Galiev overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Galiev is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Galiev is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Johnson is just riding it out for now. Galiev eventually gives up the hold. Galiev is looking to take a break and control but Johnson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Galiev is trying to work for a kimura but Johnson is defending well.

Galiev has hold of Johnson's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Johnson seems comfortable defending it but Galiev has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Johnson is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Johnson is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Galiev couldn't care less - he's delighted!
