0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, frank mir! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Wesley Smith and Robert Twigg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! mir closes the distance and clinches. mir tries to score a body lock takedown but Rude shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Rude wants to stall.

It looks like frank mir has been cut. mir keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Rude's efforts to push away. Rude is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. mir is defending well for now. Rude stalls. Rude misses with an elbow strike.

mir should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. mir showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Rude.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Rude has given up his back, trying to stand up. Not clever. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

mir closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Rude is trying to stand up here but mir is controlling him well. mir is taking a breather. Rude says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Rude keeping hold of mir's head, controlling as best he can. Rude is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of mir's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take mir's back! mir covering up well and avoiding damage. Rude is trying to stick to mir's back but mir is turning into Rude. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Rude's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by mir. frank mir has got the better of the ground game so far. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Rude keeping moving, preventing mir from controlling successfully. mir content to stall in guard here. Rude is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Despite being in the dominant position, frank mir just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Rude scores with a one two! mir had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes. mir forces Rude back against the cage and clinches. mir jumps guard and drags Rude to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if mir can do anything to dispel that myth. Rude throws a strike but mir rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. mir controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Rude can't keep his opponent in guard - mir advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rude manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Rude wants to stand up but mir is controlling him. mir postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Rude looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. mir sitting in guard here, content to control. Rude wants to hit a switch here but mir passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Rude there! Rude is desperately trying to improve his position but mir has a good base and remains in mount. mir postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Rude looks a forlorn figure.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. mir landing punches. Rude in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. mir sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Rick Rude has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! mir lands a big elbow. Rude really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

And that's the end of the fight! frank mir comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well mir has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
