Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Nate Kirby!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Leandro Rodrigues and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Soto looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Kirby darts in and clinches Soto up against the cage.
Kirby is trying to drag Soto to the mat but Soto just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Kirby wants a takedown but no success here.
Soto drops down looking for an ankle pick but Kirby pulls his leg out and moves away.
Nate Kirby seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Soto shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Soto is pressing down on Kirby's thigh, looking to free his foot. Kirby is holding on for now.

Kirby wants to control but Soto is keeping busy.
Soto takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Kirby is refusing to be controlled, as Soto sits in half guard.
Soto seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Soto really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Soto is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Kirby's half guard.

Kirby has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Soto avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Soto pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Kirby shoots and misses

and Soto counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Kirby is staying active underneath Soto, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

and Soto counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Kirby!
Marvin Soto overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Soto takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Soto tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Soto displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Kirby throws out the jab.

Soto bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Soto decides to stand up, so the ref orders Kirby to his feet.
Kirby moves out of range of the body kick.
Kirby tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Soto counters with a single leg into guard. Kirby didn't expect that.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Soto would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Kirby misses with a takedown attempt
and Soto counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Kirby has his takedown stuffed

and Soto decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Kirby's guard.
Soto postures up in Kirby's guard and throws a big left but Kirby blocks it.
Soto would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Kirby keeping moving, preventing Soto from controlling successfully.
Soto is looking to work some ground and pound but Kirby has wrist control.

Soto gets to his feet - Kirby follows without any prompting.

Soto shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Kirby's guard.
Kirby takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Soto wants to stand but Kirby is controlling his posture from full guard.

Soto decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Kirby, up you get!
Marvin Soto is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Soto.
Kirby prevents Soto from moving into mount.
Soto scoring with punches and elbows.

Kirby on the wrong end of some ground and pound.

Soto stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Soto throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Soto clinches.

Soto has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Kirby clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kirby tries to escape but Soto has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Soto is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kirby can do to turn this around?
Soto lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Kirby.

Soto controls the position.
Kirby avoids the strikes from Soto.
Kirby covering up well and avoiding damage.
Soto trying to control.
I would not like to be Kirby right now.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Soto's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Well Soto has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
