Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Albert Albertson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Vartan West Side!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown by West Side or perhaps it was just good defense by Albertson which made him look bad.
West Side fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Albertson slaps away a takedown attempt from West Side, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Albert Albertson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vartan West Side.

Albertson lands a left and a right that send West Side crashing to the mat, dazed. Albertson thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


It looks like Vartan West Side has been cut.

Albertson scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Albertson has control of West Side's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and West Side regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Albertson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

West Side tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Albertson unloads with some shots from mount but West Side bucks and avoids them well.
West Side is desperately trying to improve his position but Albertson has a good base and remains in mount.
Albertson manages to capitalize on a mistake by West Side to take his back!
Albertson has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of West Side's body.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Albertson has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, West Side has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Albertson is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

Albertson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

You can see the frustration on West Side's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Albertson bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

West Side wants to get back to his feet but Albertson drags him back down.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Albertson feints and as West Side raises his hands in defense, Albertson changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

and Albertson counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Albertson.

West Side misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Albertson.

West Side breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Albertson fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but West Side avoids it really well and circles away.

Albertson fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with West Side, pushing him back against the cage.
Albertson throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.

Albertson has picked West Side up - he's going for a ride! Albertson dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Albertson lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as West Side backs up against the cage.

Vartan West Side seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
West Side fails to land the takedown.

Albertson instigates a clinch.

Albertson pulls guard effortlessly.
West Side wants to stand and escape but instead Albertson has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Albertson stands and throws West Side's legs to the side, diving into side control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

West Side shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Albertson as he jumps to the side.

Albertson closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Albertson in particular looking to stall.
Albertson takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

West Side takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

West Side tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Albertson presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

Albertson lands a big shot there that rocks West Side but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

West Side is trying desperately to improve position.

Well Albertson has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
