PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Borbus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and lewis mcgann (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Daniel Borbus has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Daniel Borbus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, lewis mcgann!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Sergei Dronov and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from mcgann. No joy for Borbus on that attempt.

mcgann changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Borbus looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
mcgann in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Borbus is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
mcgann controlling the position from side mount.
Borbus is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
A lull in the action here.
Borbus really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

mcgann is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Borbus is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

mcgann is trying to get an arm triangle but Borbus is defending well.
mcgann taking a breather here.
Borbus is looking for a sweep.
Borbus knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for mcgann on the ground.
mcgann remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

mcgann thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
You can see the frustration on Borbus's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
mcgann content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

mcgann is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Borbus has escaped the position, nice work there.
mcgann looks gassed!

Borbus is trying to improve his position.
Borbus wants to control but mcgann postures up.
You can see the frustration on Borbus's face as mcgann controls the position.
Borbus bucks up and tries to throw mcgann off but instead mcgann has got his back!
mcgann is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. mcgann gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. mcgann gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. mcgann apologises and we restart here on the feet.

mcgann pushes Borbus up against the cage in a clinch.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Borbus goes for a takedown in the clinch but mcgann prevents it.

mcgann has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Borbus regains guard immediately.
Borbus can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as mcgann controls the pace.
mcgann passes Borbus's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Borbus is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute mcgann jumps into side control!
mcgann connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Borbus some visible discomfort.

mcgann is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

mcgann gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Borbus doesn't succeed with the takedown

and mcgann counters with a single leg into guard. Borbus didn't expect that.
mcgann keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Borbus's head.

mcgann has gone for a leg lock! Borbus slips out almost immediately though and dives into mcgann's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
mcgann looking for a sweep. Not yet mcgann, not yet.
Borbus will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Borbus is looking to advance position but mcgann has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Borbus regains half guard.
Borbus is trying to get back to full guard.

mcgann is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Borbus doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time mcgann.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
mcgann uses his free foot to push down on Borbus's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Borbus.
mcgann should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Borbus tries to improve his position but instead mcgann has taken his back!

mcgann is punishing Borbus with strikes - can he finish him?!

We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - mcgann has eaten all the pies!
mcgann avoiding Borbus 's attempts to control his hands.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Good control from mcgann.

mcgann is cranking Borbus's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Borbus! He's tightened the choke and Borbus is tapping out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). lewis mcgann!
