Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Michael Kelso! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jeffrey Shambolo! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Alexandre Firmino and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shambolo avoids a punch combination nicely.
Kelso wants to clinch. Shambolo displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination. Kelso closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Shambolo to the mat! Shambolo manages to get full guard. Shambolo trying to control the position here. Shambolo trying to control the position.
Shambolo kicks Kelso off and gets to his feet. Kelso has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. Kelso fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Horrible takedown by Kelso or perhaps it was just good defense by Shambolo which made him look bad. Danga de danga de dang - Shambolo scores with a four punch combination! Kelso throws a combination that misses and Shambolo counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Kelso is rocked! Kelso tries to clinch and Shambolo counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Shambolo. Oh Kelso is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Kelso utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Kelso being controlled here, momentarily. Shambolo looks gassed! Kelso seems to have got his legs back now. Kelso pulls Shambolo in close to prevent any damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kelso lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Shambolo! Kelso controlling his opponent. Kelso landing strikes from the mount and Shambolo is in trouble! This has been an exciting period of action! Shambolo is wriggling around trying to escape.
Kelso has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Shambolo's face.
Kelso with a couple of short strikes. Shambolo is just holding on here. Kelso manages to take his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kelso slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
Shambolo is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Kelso gets his way!
What can Shambolo do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
Kelso has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. The referee is taking a good look at Shambolo as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from Kelso!
Shambolo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kelso. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Shambolo is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Kelso.
Kelso is persistently looking for the submission but Shambolo is defending it well.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Shambolo preventing the rear naked choke attempt from Kelso. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Shambolo is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Kelso.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Shambolo is trapped and Kelso is scoring with shots to the head and body. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kelso misses with a takedown attempt and Shambolo cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Michael Kelso is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Kelso shoots in and bounces Shambolo off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Kelso stands and throws Shambolo's legs to the side, diving into side control. Michael Kelso overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Shambolo tries to get back to half guard but can't. Kelso stands up and beckons Shambolo to his feet. Kelso throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Shambolo throws a right and a left that Kelso avoids nicely. Shambolo is breathing heavily. Kelso scores with a takedown into Shambolo's guard. Kelso sitting in guard here, content to control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shambolo is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Kelso slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Kelso stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shambolo swivels though and keeps the full guard. Kelso controls from within his opponent's guard. Kelso lands a couple of digs.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Shambolo utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Kelso slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Kelso wants to control from the top but Shambolo keeps moving.
The referee stands the fighters back up. Michael Kelso just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Kelso clinches but Shambolo breaks the clinch and Shambolo counters with a series of strikes. Kelso will be more careful next time no doubt. Kelso shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Shambolo counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kelso feints and as Shambolo raises his hands in defense, Kelso changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Kelso slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Kelso being controlled here momentarily. Shambolo manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Kelso manages to get himself to full guard.
Shambolo wanted to stand there but Kelso had control of the position. Shambolo stands up from guard. Let's bang! Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Shambolo!

That's four minutes gone in the round. Kelso is thwarting Shambolo's attempts to control the position. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Kelso lands a nice short elbow. Kelso trying to pass the guard but Shambolo defending well. Kelso prevents Shambolo from improving his position. Kelso trying to pass the guard but Shambolo defending well. Kelso trying to control the pace. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Michael Kelso dominated that second round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!
Kelso shoots for a takedown but Shambolo saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Kelso takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Kelso misses with a takedown attempt and Shambolo counters with a nice uppercut. Kelso circles away from the clinch attempt.
Michael Kelso seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Shambolo fails with an attempt to clinch.
Shambolo dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Kelso. That did some damage! Kelso wants to clinch but Shambolo slips to the side and Shambolo counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Kelso drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Shambolo gets the underhooks and prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Michael Kelso. That's going to take a lot out of him. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kelso breaks from the clinch.
Kelso tries to clinch but fails miserably and Kelso takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Shambolo's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Shambolo duly obliges. Kelso showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Shambolo.

That's one minute gone in the round. Kelso shoots and misses and Shambolo counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Shambolo. Shambolo is trying to stall.
Kelso jumps guard but Shambolo stands there with Kelso around his waist. Kelso gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Kelso is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Shambolo is keeping busy. Kelso tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Shambolo smiles and moves away.

Kelso throws a combination that misses and Shambolo cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Kelso closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kelso lands in his opponent's guard. Kelso stands up from guard. Let's bang!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Shambolo moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. Kelso shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Shambolo but Shambolo pushes him off and we're back to square one. Kelso shoots in and drives through. Shambolo sprawls well. Kelso moves in looking to clinch but Shambolo pushes him off. Shambolo throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Kelso shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Kelso was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Kelso punishing his opponent with strikes. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Kelso content just to control the position here. Kelso prevents Shambolo from getting the reversal.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kelso controlling the pace for now. Shambolo tries to hold on but Kelso postures up. Shambolo is looking to get to half guard. Kelso landing strikes from the mount and Shambolo is in trouble! Kelso content just to control the position here. Kelso pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Kelso working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kelso looking to finish Shambolo with some ground and pound. This is bad for Shambolo!
Shambolo is rocked! Kelso with a couple of short strikes. Shambolo is still in real trouble! Can Kelso finish him? Kelso looking to isolate an arm here. Shambolo doesn't see it coming and as Kelso extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Kelso!
