Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mc Scrappy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). John James will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mc Scrappy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, John James!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Scrappy shoots for a double leg takedown but James sprawls well. He's pushed Scrappy's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Scrappy tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but James swivels and escapes.

James feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Scrappy is trying to keep James in close.
James stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Scrappy swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Scrappy utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
James passes easily into side control. Nice work.

James tries for a kimura but Scrappy is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Scrappy is trying to improve his position.

Scrappy is working hard here to advance position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Scrappy feints and as James raises his hands in defense, Scrappy changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Scrappy sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed James's guard.

Scrappy seems to be looking for submissions.

Scrappy is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so James is just riding it out for now. Scrappy eventually gives up the hold.
Scrappy is breathing heavily.

James gets back to full guard.

James being controlled here, momentarily.
Scrappy might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Scrappy looking to sit in guard and control but James gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Scrappy is pulling down on James's head. It's preventing any offense from James, at least for the moment.

James decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Scrappy tries for a takedown but James circles away easily

and James counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mc Scrappy. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Scrappy wants to get back to full guard.
Scrappy trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but James manages to pass to mount!
James trying to control but Scrappy is having none of it.

Scrappy tries to hold on but James pushes him away.
Scrappy is squirming around, avoiding James's attempts to control the action.

James throwing strikes here but Scrappy is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Scrappy shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and James counters with a shoot takedown. Scrappy fights it but they end up in guard.
James postures up in Scrappy's guard and throws a big left but Scrappy blocks it.
Scrappy looking for a sweep. Not yet Scrappy, not yet.
Scrappy could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Scrappy is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

James is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Scrappy manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
James is wriggling around trying to escape.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

James is trying to escape the mount but Scrappy keeps good control and instead manages to take James's back.

Scrappy looking for the choke but no joy.
James rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

James is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Scrappy wants to pass the guard but James is defending well.

James is not content to let Scrappy control the position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Scrappy darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Scrappy wants to take a breather but James is having none of it.
James is trying to get back to full guard.

Scrappy is trying to work for a kimura but James is defending well.
Scrappy passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for James!

James can't escape the position.
Scrappy sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
James has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.
James is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mc Scrappy dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Scrappy shoots in looking for a takedown. James tries to sprawl out of it but Scrappy keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. James manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Scrappy misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Scrappy shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as James sprawls well. James wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Scrappy gets slowly back to his feet.

and James decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Scrappy's guard.
James slips nicely into half guard.
James throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Scrappy regains full guard. Nicely done.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
James not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Scrappy keeping moving, preventing James from controlling successfully.

Scrappy wants to sweep here but James controlling him for the moment.
Scrappy pulls James in close to prevent any damage.
Scrappy looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
James has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Scrappy is proving hard to escape from.
Scrappy has James pulled in close to control his posture.
Scrappy is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
James stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Scrappy swivels though and keeps the full guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

and James counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Scrappy works his way to full guard. Good work.
Scrappy wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and James is now in half guard.
Scrappy tries to roll over but James keeps him under control.
James trying to control from half guard but Scrappy is working away.
Scrappy manages to get to full guard.

Scrappy tries to bench press James off him but James keeps the position.
James wants to control but Scrappy is keeping him busy.

James stands up.
James keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

James shoots in and bounces Scrappy off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Scrappy is trying to control the position from the bottom.
James trying to control the position from guard on top but Scrappy is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Scrappy bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in James's guard.
James looking for a sweep. Not yet James, not yet.
James being controlled here, momentarily.

James escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Scrappy gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

And that's the end of the fight!
John James comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well James has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
