Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of

0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mario Rodriguez! The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Kenichi Hosakawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rodriguez has a takedown stuffed. Soldier smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. Soldier fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Rodriguez, pushing him back against the cage. Soldier lands a takedown into guard.
Rodriguez looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Soldier passes into side control.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Rodriguez manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Soldier is working for a submission of some sort.

Soldier doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Soldier manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Rodriguez is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Soldier drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Soldier jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Soldier forces his way into half guard. Soldier is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Rodriguez sees it coming and defends easily. Soldier is looking for a kimura but Rodriguez is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Soldier to get the leverage.

It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Rodriguez defends it well. Soldier moves into full mount! Rodriguez won't be happy about that! Rodriguez drops back looking for a leg! Soldier is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Soldier manages to kick Rodriguez off! Rodriguez jumps back into Soldier's guard. Soldier looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Soldier has a closed guard, preventing Rodriguez from standing up. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Rodriguez thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Rodriguez pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Soldier is keeping the position for now. Rodriguez works a leg free and moves into half guard. Soldier wants to get back to his feet. Soldier is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Rodriguez's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Rodriguez's back! Rodriguez rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Rodriguez slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Soldier is looking to stand up but Rodriguez won't let him. Rodriguez has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Soldier can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Rodriguez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Soldier gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Rodriguez dives in and grabs Soldier's left leg, looking for a takedown. Soldier pushes down on Rodriguez's head and hops out. Mike Soldier has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. Soldier wants the takedown. Rodriguez is fighting it off but Soldier persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Rodriguez's guard against the cage.

Soldier escapes and throws Rodriguez's legs to the side, diving into side control! Soldier stands up and beckons Rodriguez to his feet. Soldier shoots in but no luck this time. Soldier stuffs the takedown attempt from Rodriguez. Rodriguez gets slowly back to his feet. Rodriguez avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
