PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between James Mitchell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Silla Kim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kim has chosen CANON in D Korean Version (with gayageum) as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, James Mitchell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Silla Kim!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Eliza Hachem and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mitchell throws a right and a left that both miss.
Nice takedown defense from Kim. No joy for Mitchell on that attempt.
Kim is looking to score with low kicks.
Mitchell throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Kim gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Mitchell blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Mitchell tries to pull guard but Kim holds him up against the cage and eventually Mitchell drops back down to his feet.

Kim breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Kim throws a leg kick but Mitchell moved away.
No joy there for Kim, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Mitchell fails to land with a series of punches.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mitchell will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Mitchell. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kim fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Mitchell.
Mitchell thuds a left hand into Kim's body.
Kim throws a body kick that misses.
Kim throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Mitchell counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Kim!

Kim tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Mitchell tries to control but Kim wriggling away.

Mitchell goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Kim turns into him and now he's in Mitchell's guard.
Kim won't allow Mitchell to sweep him here.

Mitchell is looking for a triangle but Kim pushes his legs off easily.

Kim drops back, looking for a kneebar! Mitchell looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Mitchell looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Mitchell!
Kim gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Kim regains full guard. Nicely done.

Kim escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mitchell gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Mitchell swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Mitchell misses with a double jab.
Kim throws a leg kick

and Mitchell counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Kim!

Mitchell moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Kim has worked his arm free - good work by Kim!
Mitchell tries to advance to mount but Kim denies him.
Kim sneaks back into half guard.
Kim gets full guard.

Kim looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Kim looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mitchell is one step ahead there.
Kim striking off his back but it's not causing Mitchell any problems.
Mitchell postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Mitchell pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kim is keeping the position for now.
Kim pulls Mitchell in close to prevent any damage.
Mitchell wants to control from the top but Kim keeps moving.

Mitchell shoots in and drives through. Kim sprawls well.

and Mitchell counters with a stiff right hand.

Kim tries to score with a low kick but Mitchell moves his leg out of the way.

and Mitchell counters with a left and a right that stings Kim.
Kim throws a front kick aimed at Mitchell's knee but Mitchell avoids it well.

Mitchell throws a right hand that Kim ducks under and follows up with a left that Kim also avoids with ease.
Mitchell's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Mitchell duly obliges.
Kim stuffs the takedown.

Silla Kim is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kim throws a wild body kick that Mitchell sees coming a mile off.
Kim thuds his shin into the meat of Mitchell's side.
Kim closes the distance but Mitchell moves to the side
and Mitchell counters with a three punch combo that has Kim backing up. Kim nods at Mitchell to acknowledge the strikes.
Kim throws a looping overhand right but Mitchell ducks down to avoid it.

Kim misses with a head kick.
Kim throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Kim connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Mitchell staying out of range there.
Mitchell misses with a jab, cross combination.
Mitchell avoids a punch combination nicely.

Kim scores with a leg kick.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Kim rushes Mitchell and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Kim using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Mitchell has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Kim unloads a knee to the mid-section. Mitchell lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Silla Kim showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Kim takes a swing at Mitchell's ribcage but misses.
Kim wants to clinch.
Mitchell throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Mitchell tries to bum rush Kim with a series of wild strikes but Kim uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Kim throws a series of punches but Mitchell moves out of range.
Mitchell will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Kim throws a looping overhand right but Mitchell ducks down to avoid it.
Mitchell falls off balance throwing a combination
and Kim counters with a good, hard body kick but Mitchell shrugs it off.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Kim fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Mitchell manages to avoid it.
Silla Kim seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mitchell avoids the head kick by Kim.
Mitchell throws a right and a left that Kim avoids nicely.
Mitchell lands with a nice body punch.
Kim is looking to clinch.
Kim throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Mitchell throws a nice looking combination but Kim bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Kim scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Mitchell sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Kim fails in his attempt to clinch.
Kim throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Kim tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Mitchell is able to avoid easily.

Kim gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

James Mitchell overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Kim working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mitchell doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mitchell manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Mitchell drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Kim dives on top into guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Kim got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mitchell has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kim has managed to get both his arms back between Mitchell's legs - danger averted.
Kim is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Mitchell looking for a guillotine here but Kim defends easily.

Mitchell is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Silla Kim comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Kim has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
