Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Brett Yelton! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Latka Gravas! The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Steve Erwin and Hugh Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Yelton wants to clinch. Gravas drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Gravas in side control lands a decent elbow. Gravas working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Gravas wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Yelton, who protects the arm well. Gravas is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Yelton is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Gravas tries for a kimura but Yelton is defending well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gravas tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Yelton tries to bench press Gravas off him but Gravas keeps the position. Yelton manages to work his way to half guard, despite Gravas's best efforts. Gravas seems to be working for a kimura but Yelton defends the submission attempt. Gravas passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Yelton! Yelton keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Yelton defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Gravas. Gravas jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Yelton is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Yelton and Gravas has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Yelton tries to bench press Gravas off him but Gravas keeps the position. Gravas wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Yelton, who protects the arm well. Yelton is looking to regain half guard here but Gravas keeps moving and retains side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gravas thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. An elbow from Gravas crashes against the mat.
Yelton is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Gravas's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Yelton tries to roll over but Gravas keeps him under control. Yelton gets back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Yelton is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Gravas is aware though and is defending well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Yelton keeping full guard, as Gravas tries to pass. Yelton is looking for a triangle but Gravas pushes his legs off easily.
Yelton working for submissions but it's allowed Gravas to get to half guard.
Yelton is breathing heavily. Yelton is defending against the submission attempts here by Gravas.
Gravas seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Yelton is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
