PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Rob Medley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sean Rodey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rodey has chosen The best song in the world as his entrance music. Rob Medley had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 146.0lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. Sean Rodey has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rob Medley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sean Rodey!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Winston Howard and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rodey scores with a takedown into Medley's guard.
Rodey works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Rodey sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Medley defending well though.

Rodey is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Medley doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Rodey.
Rodey seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Medley does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Rodey works his way into side control.
Medley really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Rodey thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Rodey is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Medley is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
You can see the frustration on Medley's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rodey decides to stand back up. Rodey steps back and let's Medley get back to his feet.
Rodey throws a hook but Medley avoids it easily.
Sean Rodey seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Medley throws a right hand that Rodey ducks under and follows up with a left that Rodey also avoids with ease.
Medley stalks Rodey and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Rodey's face. Rodey staggers backwards, shaken.
Rodey misses with a hook. Medley ducked under it nicely.
Medley scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Medley tries to bum rush Rodey with a series of wild strikes but Rodey uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Rodey looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Medley lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Medley throws a right hand that Rodey ducks under and follows up with a left that Rodey also avoids with ease.

Medley rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Rodey moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Medley misses with the combination.
Medley lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Rodey backs up against the cage.
Medley is working the combinations to good effect here.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Rodey shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Medley pinned against the cage. Medley gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Rob Medley has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sean Rodey.
Medley lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Medley scores with a one two! Rodey had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
The fight stays on the outside here - Rodey looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Medley looks to land a combination. Rodey sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Rodey throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Medley sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Rob Medley is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Medley goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Medley takes one on the button.

Rodey moves into the clinch.
Medley is trying to break the clinch but Rodey is controlling him.

Rodey breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Medley ducks under a wild hook from Rodey.
Medley goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Rodey clobbers Medley with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Rodey wants to clinch up but Medley keeps it at a distance.
A punch combination from Medley misses.
A jab from Rodey misses.
Medley keeps the fight on the outside.
Rodey changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Medley tries to avoid it but Rodey manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Medley to the ground. Medley escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Rodey fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Medley misses with the combination.
Medley keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Rodey throws a lazy right hand but Medley sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Rodey throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Medley ducks under a wild hook from Rodey.
Medley displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Rodey throws out the jab.

Medley gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Rodey slips nicely into half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Rodey decides to stand and escape the position.
Rodey lands the left hand.
Medley scores with a one two! Rodey had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Rob Medley will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Medley ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Rodey looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Medley!

Rodey has hold of Medley's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Medley manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Rodey looking to control but Medley is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Medley really wants to buck Rodey off and get back to his feet.
Rodey content just to control the position here.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
A nice elbow there by Rodey.

Rodey moves to take his opponent's back.
Medley wants to get back to his feet.

Rodey looking for the choke but no joy.

Rodey is working for a rear naked choke. Medley is not defending it well and Rodey has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Medley refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Medley's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:46 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Sean Rodey!
