The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Excellent takedown into side control there by Nielson.
Nielson thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Gomez tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Nielson wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Nielson goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Gomez rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Nielson's guard! Nice work there by Gomez!
Gomez distracts Nielson with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Gomez stands up over Nielson, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gomez sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Nielson's guard.
Nielson is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Gomez pulls his head out easily.
Gomez is looking to advance position but Nielson won't allow it.
Gomez working over Nielson with some ground and pound. Nielson looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Gomez seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Nielson is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
