Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rafael Pietra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Benoit Barette (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rafael Pietra!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Benoit Barette!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Robert Douchet and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barette throws a sloppy head kick and Pietra moves out of range easily.

Barette has Pietra up against the cage in a clinch.
Pietra tries to pull guard but Barette holds him up against the cage and eventually Pietra drops back down to his feet.

Pietra escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Barette tries to clinch there but Pietra circles away.

Barette closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Pietra to the mat! Pietra manages to get full guard.
Barette is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Barette is fighting to break Pietra's control of his arms but Pietra is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Barette tries to stand but Pietra is controlling from the bottom.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pietra is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Pietra is pulling down on Barette's head. It's preventing any offense from Barette, at least for the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Barette fails with a takedown attempt.
Barette moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Pietra has managed to clinch.

Barette has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Pietra uses from the top position.

Pietra gets to his feet. Barette looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Pietra is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Barette cracks Pietra with an open hand slap.

Pietra is looking to clinch but Barette is avoiding it.

Benoit Barette seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Barette gets the takedown into side control.
Pietra wants to control but Barette postures up.
Pietra is trying to improve his position.
You can see the frustration on Pietra's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Pietra throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
Pietra is breathing heavily.
Barette looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Barette lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Pietra backs up against the cage.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Pietra wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Barette gets underhooks to prevent Pietra's takedown attempt.
Pietra tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Barette just stands there and leans against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rafael Pietra. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A frustrated look appears on Pietra's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Barette works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Pietra working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Barette doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Barette manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Barette must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
and Pietra counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Pietra seems to be working for a kimura but Barette defends the submission attempt.
Barette really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pietra. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Barette is looking for a sweep. Pietra is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Barette is trying to stand back up but Pietra is controlling him

Pietra has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Barette wants to hold on but Pietra pushes him away.

Pietra stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Barette tries to clinch but Pietra is having none of it.
Barette shoots and misses

and Pietra counters with a nice double leg into side control. Barette won't be happy with that.
Barette is not content to let Pietra control the position.

Pietra goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Barette rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Pietra's guard! Nice work there by Barette!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Barette controlling from the top position.
Barette trying to control the position from guard on top but Pietra is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Barette slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Barette wants to control from the top but Pietra keeps moving.

Pietra pushes Barette off and scrambles back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Rafael Pietra has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Benoit Barette.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Pietra is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Pietra is looking to stall here but Barette recovers full guard.
Barette preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Barette looking for a guillotine here but Pietra defends easily.

Pietra drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Barette manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Pietra has Barette in his guard.

Barette stands up and waves to Pietra to follow him.
Barette throws a shot to the body.
Barette wants to clinch

and Pietra counters with a shoot takedown. Barette fights it but they end up in guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Barette is trying to control the position but Pietra postures up.
Barette striking off his back.
Barette controls Pietra momentarily but Pietra frees himself.
Barette keeping moving, preventing Pietra from controlling successfully.
Barette wants to get back to his feet but Pietra is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Pietra is working Barette over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Barette holds on and takes a little breather.
Pietra slips nicely into half guard.
Pietra is trying to control the action in half guard but Barette is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Barette is looking for a sweep. Pietra is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Pietra is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Pietra wants to take a breather but Barette is having none of it.

Pietra is trying to control. Barette wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Barette pushes Pietra off and gets back to his feet.

Rafael Pietra showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Pietra has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
