PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy Arnold (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andre Giant (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Giant drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Giant controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Arnold is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Giant defends well.

so Giant counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Arnold controls Giant momentarily but Giant frees himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Giant slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Giant turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Giant manages to end up in side control.

Despite being in the dominant position, Andre Giant just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Giant closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Arnold is refusing to be controlled, as Giant sits in half guard.
Arnold has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Giant is working away from the top position though.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Giant connects with a nice short shot to Arnold's temple.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Arnold throws a right and a left that both miss.
