Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Joe Foe! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Stewart Tennent! The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, John Mangel and Damien Edna.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tennent misses with a double jab.
Tennent misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Foe.
Nice sprawl there from Tennent as Foe shoots in. Tennent keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Stewart Tennent seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Foe changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Tennent tries to avoid it but Foe manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Tennent to the ground. Tennent escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joe Foe. That's going to take a lot out of him. Foe has a takedown stuffed. Foe tries to score a power double leg takedown but Tennent sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Foe somewhat. Foe fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Tennent avoids it really well and circles away. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Tennent misses the shot to the body.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tennent displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Foe. Tennent rushes Foe and presses him up against the cage. Tennent's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Tennent fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Foe shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Tennent as he avoids it easily. Tennent misses with a wild body shot. Tennent misses with a few strikes there.
Tennent with a lazy takedown attempt and Foe counters with a takedown into side control. Tennent is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Foe tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Foe throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Tennent works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure. Tennent keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Tennent wants to improve his position but Foe is controlling well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Foe not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Foe not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Tennent wants to control but Foe is keeping busy.
Tennent avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Foe. Foe throws a strike but Tennent avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Tennent shoots in for a takedown and gets it. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Foe is pressing down on Tennent's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Tennent postures up.
Foe has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Tennent can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Foe is breathing heavily. Foe is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Tennent rolls with it to try and escape but Foe cranks on the arm and Tennent is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
