The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rakopaljaana shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Penn pinned against the cage. Penn gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Tatjaana Rakopaljaana seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Penn scores a takedown into full mount!

Penn looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Rakopaljaana wants to control but Penn is having none of it.

Penn is standing up, even though he is in mount.

Rakopaljaana feints and as Penn raises his hands in defense, Rakopaljaana changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Penn is not content to let Rakopaljaana control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rakopaljaana lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Penn is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Rakopaljaana pulls his head out easily.

Rakopaljaana wants to free his trapped foot but Penn is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Penn stands and steps away. Rakopaljaana gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Penn shoots in for a takedown but Rakopaljaana shows good takedown defense.
Rakopaljaana throws a sloppy head kick and Penn moves out of range easily.

Penn has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rakopaljaana can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Rakopaljaana stands and throws Penn's legs to the side, diving into side control.
You can see the frustration on Penn's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Penn is looking for a sweep.

Rakopaljaana has an Americana. Penn didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Rakopaljaana is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Rakopaljaana hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
