PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ground Pound II (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yizzy Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ground Pound II!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Yizzy Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Paulsen Ambrosius and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Gracie is defended easily by Pound II.
Gracie shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Pound II but Pound II pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Gracie is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Gracie gets caught flat footed, as Pound II shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Pound II drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Gracie dives on top into guard.
Gracie is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Gracie trying to control the position from guard on top but Pound II is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Pound II is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Pound II is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Gracie drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gracie jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Gracie pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Pound II is keeping the position for now.
Pound II pulls Gracie in close to prevent any damage.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Pound II feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Gracie will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Gracie pulls Pound II in close to prevent any damage.
Pound II lands a couple of digs.
Pound II wanted to stand there but Gracie had control of the position.
Pound II has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Gracie had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Pound II defends it easily.

Gracie has momentary wrist control but Pound II slips an elbow through the middle.
Pound II is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Gracie is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Pound II on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Pound II tries to get out of the position.

Gracie is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Pound II wants to sweep but no luck.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pound II has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Gracie thows a big elbow that misses.

Pound II looking for a guillotine here but Gracie defends easily.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Pound II drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ground Pound II dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Gracie gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Pound II counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Pound II is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Gracie is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Gracie has escaped and now he's on top!

Gracie drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Pound II dives on top into guard.

Pound II is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Pound II stands up from Gracie's guard - Pound II perhaps looking for a knockout.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Gracie looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Pound II!
Pound II is trying desperately to improve position.
Pound II looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
Pound II just trying to survive but Gracie is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Gracie scores with punches to the body.

Pound II is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.

Gracie goes for a risky armbar from back mount and it's not paid off. Pound II escapes and is now in half guard on top.

Still in half guard, Pound II seems content to control.
Gracie is trying to control but can't.
Pound II wants to pass the guard but Gracie is defending well.

Pound II seems to be looking for submissions.
Gracie makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Gracie.
Pound II throwing strikes but missing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Gracie trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Pound II stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gracie swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Pound II working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Gracie closes the distance and clinches.
Gracie changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Pound II fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Pound II clinches up with Gracie and pushes him back against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Yizzy Gracie will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Gracie doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Pound II counters with a takedown into side control.
Gracie strikes from the bottom but Pound II takes advantage and advances to full mount!
Gracie tries to lock up and control but Pound II gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Pound II tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Pound II seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Gracie for as long as he can get away with.
Pound II has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Pound II trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Gracie holds on for dear life.
Pound II knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gracie on the ground.
Pound II wants to control the pace but Gracie is squirming around nicely.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Ground Pound II just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Gracie avoids a low kick by using good footwork.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pound II throws a sloppy head kick and Gracie moves out of range easily.
Ground Pound II is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Gracie misses with a kick to the body.
Gracie gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Pound II counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Pound II tries to pass the half guard into mount. Gracie knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Pound II wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gracie keeps working.

Ground Pound II showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Pound II has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
