Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Joey Vera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Rudd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vera comes to the cage accompanied by Weightless by All Time Low. Rudd has chosen Bob Marley - Get Up Stand Up as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Joey Vera! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Chris Rudd! The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Hugh Johnson and Steve Erwin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Vera shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Rudd pinned against the cage. Rudd gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Chris Rudd seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Vera shoots in but no luck this time. Rudd rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Vera moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Rudd with a poor takedown and Vera counters with a takedown into side control. Vera in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time. Rudd tries to get back to half guard but can't. Rudd is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Vera tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Vera has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Rudd is looking for a sweep. Vera decides to stand back up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rudd shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Vera trying to control but Rudd postures up.
Vera is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Rudd pulls his head out easily. Rudd is keen to just control but Vera is a slippery customer. Rudd is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Vera defends it well. Vera wants to control but Rudd is keeping busy and won't allow it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Vera looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Vera is breathing heavily. Rudd is trying to work for a kimura but Vera is defending well.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Vera gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Rudd counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Vera! That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joey Vera. That's going to take a lot out of him. Rudd is standing up, even though he is in mount. It looks like Joey Vera has been cut. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Rudd throws a body kick despite being completely out of range and Vera counters with a takedown into side control. Rudd gets back to half guard. Vera prevents Rudd from standing back up.
Rudd slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rudd seems keen to control Vera's posture. Rudd pushes Vera off and gets back to his feet.
Rudd lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Vera backs up against the cage.
Vera gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Rudd to score an easy takedown into full guard. Rudd thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Rudd avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Vera can't keep his opponent in guard - Rudd advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Rudd stands up from half guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Vera leaves Rudd with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Rudd misses with a takedown so Vera counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Rudd is trying to keep Vera in close.
Vera has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Vera with a flurry of punches that miss. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Chris Rudd dominated that round. The cut man is working on Joey Vera's cut. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Rudd doesn't succeed with the takedown and Vera counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Rudd! Rudd holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Vera tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Rudd is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Rudd tries to hold on but Vera postures up. Vera has hold of Rudd's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Rudd manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Vera jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Rudd is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Rudd and Vera has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Rudd can't do much from the bottom here. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rudd gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Rudd has one foot on Vera's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. Rudd gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Vera counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Vera looking to pass the guard. Vera lands a couple of decent looking shots. Rudd looking for a triangle here. Vera is fighting it but it looks tight! Rudd pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Vera is tapping out - this one is all over!
