Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gustavo Assis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Thiago Cunha and Matheus Silva.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Souza swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Assis will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Alex Souza seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Souza has a takedown stuffed.
Assis shoots in and bounces Souza off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Souza looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Assis thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Souza is trying to hold Assis in close to prevent damage but Assis has managed to pass into half guard.

Souza really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Assis. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Souza manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Souza throws an overhand right that lands on Assis's shoulder, as Assis tries to avoid the shot.

Souza looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Assis!
Souza is trying to stand up but he's being controlled by his opponent.
Assis keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Assis regains half guard.

Souza wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Assis uses the opportunity to regain full guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Souza drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Assis manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Souza has Assis in his guard.
Souza looks gassed!
Assis is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Souza is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Souza has escaped and now he's on top!
Assis looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Assis is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Souza defends well.

Assis has his foot on Souza's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Souza works his way back into a safe position though.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Assis escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Souza gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Souza wants to get up but he can't break Assis's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Assis has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Souza can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Assis is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Souza is aware though and is defending well.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Souza wants to stand but Assis is controlling his posture from full guard.
Souza looking to sit in guard and control but Assis gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Assis shoots for a takedown but Souza saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Souza throws a looping overhand right but Assis ducks down to avoid it.
Assis throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Souza was covering up waiting for the punch and Assis finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Assis drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Souza dives on top into guard.
Souza wants to pass the guard but Assis is keeping the position.
Souza must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Assis escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Souza gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Souza is stalling in the full guard.

Souza tries to free his leg and advance position but Assis is retaining full guard.
Assis throws his legs up looking for a submission but Souza uses it to pass to side control.
Souza takes a little break here. Assis wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Assis manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Souza is breathing heavily.
Souza wants to stand but Assis has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Souza is trying to control the action in half guard but Assis is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Assis is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Souza pulls his head out easily.

Souza is posturing up here but Assis has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Souza tries to roll out but it's too tight and Souza has to tap! Slick submission there by Assis!
