Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Josef Gobbels!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sangsiki Surinami!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Damien Edna and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Surinami stuffs the takedown attempt from Gobbels. Gobbels gets slowly back to his feet.
Gobbels throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Gobbels rushes Surinami and presses him up against the cage.
Gobbels wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Surinami tries for a takedown. No joy.

Gobbels decides to pull guard.
Gobbels will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Surinami trying to control but Gobbels is working from the bottom.

Gobbels looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Surinami avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Gobbels wants to sweep here but Surinami controlling him for the moment.

Gobbels working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Surinami has passed into half guard!
Surinami wants to control but Gobbels is keeping him busy.

Gobbels wants to get back to full guard but Surinami has mounted him!
Surinami trying to control but Gobbels is having none of it.
Gobbels is trying to escape the mount but Surinami keeps good control and instead manages to take Gobbels's back.
Surinami doesn't have the hooks in and Gobbels manages to turn into his guard.
Surinami is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Gobbels slips nicely into half guard.
Gobbels is breathing heavily.

Gobbels is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Surinami has managed to free his arm - good work.
Gobbels is trying to control the action in half guard but Surinami is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Surinami keeping hold of Gobbels's head, controlling as best he can.
Surinami moves into full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Surinami looking to control.
Surinami is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Gobbels really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Gobbels trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Surinami manages to pass to mount!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Gobbels is squirming around, avoiding Surinami's attempts to control the action.
Surinami is looking to stand but Surinami has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.

Gobbels defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Surinami.
Gobbels is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gobbels is looking to improve his position but Surinami isn't that keen on the idea.
Surinami trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Surinami is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Gobbels has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Gobbels!
Gobbels wants to pass the guard but Surinami is keeping the position.
Surinami working a defensive guard here.
Gobbels trying to control but Surinami is working from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Gobbels postures up.

Despite being in the dominant position, Sangsiki Surinami just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Gobbels takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Surinami with a poor takedown

and Gobbels counters with a shoot takedown. Surinami fights it but they end up in guard.
Surinami scores with a short punch from the bottom.
Gobbels stands and throws Surinami's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Gobbels tries to move to mount but Surinami blocks the move with his legs.

Gobbels has hold of Surinami's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Surinami tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Gobbels cranks the arm and Surinami screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Surinami, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Josef Gobbels!
