PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mac Day (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexander Thoupos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Thoupos has chosen Opposite of Adults as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Alexander Thoupos has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Mac Day's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mac Day!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Alexander Thoupos!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Wagner Zegers and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thoupos moves out of range of the body kick.
Day takes a jab right on the kisser.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Day changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Thoupos tries to avoid it but Day manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Thoupos to the ground. Thoupos escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Day shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Thoupos sprawls well. Thoupos wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Day gets slowly back to his feet.

Thoupos clinches.

Thoupos has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Day regains guard immediately.

Day escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Thoupos gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Thoupos thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Thoupos really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Day. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Day has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Thoupos has passed into side control.
Day wants to control but Thoupos postures up.
Day tries to buck Thoupos off but Thoupos is having none of it.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Thoupos decides to stand up, so the ref orders Day to his feet.
The fighters circling - Thoupos throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Thoupos loads up on a big right hand but Day slips the punch.

Day gets the takedown into side control.

Day is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Thoupos has escaped the position, nice work there.
Thoupos is trying to improve his position.
Day wants to control but Thoupos is keeping him busy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Thoupos manages to work his way to half guard, despite Day's best efforts.
Thoupos pushes Day off looking to stand but Day dives back in and keeps control.
Thoupos tries to get to full guard but Day has control of the leg.

Day seems to be working for a kimura but Thoupos defends the submission attempt.
Day works his way into full mount!
Thoupos working to try and regain half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Thoupos is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Day is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Thoupos is wriggling around trying to escape.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Thoupos looks gassed!
Day throwing strikes here but Thoupos is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Day is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Thoupos is surviving well by controlling Day's body position as best he can.
Thoupos really wants to buck Day off and get back to his feet.
Day controlling the pace for now.
Thoupos tries to buck Day off but he can't manage it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Thoupos blocking the ground and pound.
Thoupos is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Day has taken his back.
Day missing with punches from the back.
Thoupos controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.
Thoupos tries to roll but Day sticks to his back.
Thoupos is keeping busy.
Day controls the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mac Day will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Day shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Day showed some decent athleticism there.
Thoupos has hold of Day's hands but Day slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Well, if Day is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Day thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Thoupos's head.
Thoupos gets full guard.
Day wants to pass the guard but Thoupos is keeping the position.
Day trying to control but Thoupos is working from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Day slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Day tries to score with some ground and pound. Thoupos controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Day working the ground and pound but Thoupos is defending the strikes.
Day trying to control the action but Thoupos is working from the bottom.
Thoupos is looking to regain half guard here but Day keeps moving and retains side control.

Day looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Day working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Thoupos wants to control but Day postures up.
Day in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Thoupos is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Day asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Day in side control, throwing shots but Thoupos defends.
Day throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Day scores with a couple of short elbows.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Thoupos tries to bench press Day off him but Day keeps the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Check out the look on Day's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Thoupos is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Day is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Day in side control, throwing shots but Thoupos defends.
Day working the body and head with strikes.
Day is looking to take a break and control but Thoupos is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Day has hold of Thoupos's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Thoupos seems comfortable defending it but Day has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Thoupos is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Thoupos is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Day couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Mac Day!
