Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nathan Scott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Smithers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Scott comes into the arena with Down blaring out of the sound system. Smithers has chosen Metallica - No Leaf Clover as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of

7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jim Smithers! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Robert Douchet and Trevor Gratis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Scott shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Smithers manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Smithers keeping full guard, as Scott tries to pass. Smithers is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Smithers is looking for a triangle but Scott pushes his legs off easily.
Scott controlling from the top position. Scott stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Smithers swivels though and keeps the full guard. Scott postures up in Smithers's guard and throws a big left but Smithers blocks it.

Smithers keeping moving, preventing Scott from controlling successfully. Scott knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Smithers on the ground.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Scott looking to sit in guard and control but Smithers gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Scott is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Nice takedown defense from Smithers. No joy for Scott on that attempt. Smithers doesn't manage to clinch there - Scott circles away.
Scott gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Smithers manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Smithers working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Scott doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Scott manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. That's three minutes gone in the round. Smithers is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Scott defends well. Scott slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Scott decides to take the fight back to the feet. Smithers uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Scott.
Smithers closes this distance looking for a takedown but Scott circles away. Scott closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Scott lands in his opponent's guard. Scott is looking to advance position but Smithers has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Scott regains half guard. Smithers wants to work for an arm triangle but Scott is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Scott slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Scott keeps the fight on the outside.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Scott scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Nathan Scott has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Smithers is taking a breather. Scott says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Scott is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
