PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Manel Pimpolho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leonardo Velasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Manel Pimpolho!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Leonardo Velasquez!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Felipe Paraventi and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Velasquez doesn't manage to clinch there - Pimpolho circles away.

Velasquez lands a left and a right that send Pimpolho crashing to the mat, dazed. Velasquez thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

It looks like Manel Pimpolho has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Oh Pimpolho is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Pimpolho has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Velasquez avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Pimpolho seems to have got his legs back now.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The fight stays on the outside here - Velasquez looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Velasquez moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Pimpolho lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Velasquez can't keep his opponent in guard - Pimpolho advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Pimpolho works his foot free and advances to mount.

Pimpolho working for a submission but Velasquez is keeping him at bay.
Pimpolho throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Manel Pimpolho.
I think Velasquez has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
