PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Cody Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Quinten Duncan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johnson comes to the cage accompanied by Jedi. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cody Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Quinten Duncan!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, George Francis and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Duncan gets a takedown into half guard.
Duncan wants to pass to mount but Johnson is defending the position.
Duncan with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Johnson wants to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Duncan looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Duncan is pressing down on Johnson's thigh, looking to free his foot. Johnson is holding on for now.
Johnson wants to improve his position but Duncan is controlling well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Duncan trying to control from half guard but Johnson is working away.
Duncan moves nicely into side control.
Duncan should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Duncan working the ground and pound but Johnson is defending the strikes.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Johnson tries to buck Duncan off but Duncan is having none of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Duncan looking to control but instead Johnson has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.
Duncan is controlling the pace.
Johnson is not content to let Duncan control the position.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Duncan is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Johnson doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Duncan.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Duncan wants to free his trapped foot but Johnson is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Duncan is keen to just control but Johnson is a slippery customer.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Johnson closes the distance and lands a one-two.


It looks like Quinten Duncan has been cut.
Johnson looks to land a combination but Duncan avoids it well.
Duncan shoots for a double leg takedown but Johnson sprawls well. He's pushed Duncan's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
A punch combination from Johnson misses.
Duncan misses with an uppercut.

Johnson closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Johnson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A combination from Duncan does no damage.
Johnson takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Johnson throws a series of strikes that have Duncan backpedaling.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Duncan is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cody Johnson dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Quinten Duncan's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Duncan showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Johnson.
Johnson rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Duncan moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Duncan misses with a takedown attempt - Johnson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Johnson throws a series of punches but Duncan avoids them all with ease.
Duncan throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Johnson counters with a series of strikes. Duncan will be more careful next time no doubt.
Johnson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Johnson throws a series of punches but Duncan moves out of range.
Duncan fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Johnson looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Duncan fails with a takedown attempt.
Johnson gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Duncan counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Johnson!

Duncan is working for a guillotine from mount but Johnson frees his head quite easily.
Duncan lands a heavy elbow.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Duncan can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Johnson is looking to escape.
Duncan scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Johnson?
Duncan tries to control but Johnson wriggling away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Johnson is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Johnson is squirming around, avoiding Duncan's attempts to control the action.
Duncan lands a nice shot to the head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Duncan can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Johnson is looking to escape.
Duncan thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Johnson is looking to improve his position but Duncan isn't that keen on the idea.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Duncan working Johnson over with strikes here.
Duncan postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Johnson looks a forlorn figure.

Duncan misses with a head shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Quinten Duncan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Duncan throws a series of punches but Johnson avoids them all with ease.
Johnson throws a nice looking combination but Duncan bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Johnson stuffs the takedown.
Cody Johnson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Johnson throws a left and a right that both miss

and Duncan decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Johnson's guard.
Duncan forces his way into half guard.
Well, if Duncan is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Duncan decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Johnson.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Duncan changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Johnson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Duncan controlling the position.
Duncan wants to lay and pray for a moment but Johnson keeps working.
Duncan advances to full mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Duncan get's back to his feet.
Johnson misses with a two punch combination.
Johnson swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Duncan counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Duncan in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Duncan thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Johnson can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Duncan controls the pace.
Duncan passes Johnson's left leg - he's now in half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Duncan works his way into full mount!
Duncan landing strikes, looking to finish!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Duncan working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Duncan looking to control and managing it successfully.
Duncan landing strikes from the mount and Johnson is in trouble!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Johnson in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.

And that's the end of the fight!
Quinten Duncan comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Duncan has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
