Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Richard James! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joe Acton! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Thiago Cunha and Leandro Rodrigues.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Acton slips a straight right by James. Acton shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. James manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Acton postures up in James's guard and throws a big left but James blocks it. James throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
James is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Acton defends well. Acton must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Acton looking to sit in guard and control but James gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Acton tries to land a sweep but no joy. Acton has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but James can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
That's one minute gone in the round. James stands and throws Acton's legs to the side, diving into side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. James is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Acton knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Acton tries to get back to half guard but can't. James is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Acton has escaped the position, nice work there. Acton wants to control but James postures up. James really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. James has hold of Acton's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Acton seems comfortable defending it but James has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Acton is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Acton is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but James couldn't care less - he's delighted!
