The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Thomas closes the distance and clinches.
Gambatesa has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Thomas is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Thomas prevents Gambatesa from breaking the clinch.

Thomas breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Thomas scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Thomas swings around for an armbar but Gambatesa sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Thomas's guard.
Gambatesa stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Thomas swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Thomas wants to stand up but Gambatesa is controlling him.

Gambatesa is looking for a kimura but Thomas is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Gambatesa to get the leverage.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Thomas can do anything to dispel that myth.
