PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jesus Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Van Dam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jesus Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jack Van Dam!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Ian Loll and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Jones.

Van Dam closes the distance and pushes Jones back into the cage.
Jones is working for takedown but Van Dam is calmly controlling the position for now.

Van Dam has picked Jones up - he's going for a ride! Van Dam dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Van Dam is pressing down on Jones's thigh, looking to free his foot. Jones is holding on for now.
Jones gets back to full guard.
Van Dam trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Jones looking for a sweep. Not yet Jones, not yet.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Jones holds on and takes a little breather.
Van Dam tries to free his leg and advance position but Jones is retaining full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Van Dam drops back looking for a leg! Jones is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Jones manages to kick Van Dam off! Van Dam jumps back into Jones's guard.
Van Dam wants to pass the guard but Jones is keeping the position.
Van Dam postures up.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Van Dam uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Jones.
Jones fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Van Dam shoots in but Jones avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Jones misses with a takedown

and Van Dam counters with a takedown into side control.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jesus Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Van Dam tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Van Dam looks gassed!
Van Dam moves into full mount!

Van Dam is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Jones is surviving well by controlling Van Dam's body position as best he can.
Jones is controlling an arm, preventing Van Dam from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jones working to try and regain half guard.
Van Dam wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Van Dam is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Jones has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Jones!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jones wants to pass the guard but Van Dam is keeping the position.
Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Van Dam is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Jones drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Jones jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Jones drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Van Dam manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Jones has Van Dam in his guard.
Van Dam must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Van Dam pushes down on Jones's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Van Dam is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Van Dam is trying to work for a kimura but Jones is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Van Dam dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Jones misses with a takedown

and Van Dam counters by clinching up.

Van Dam jumps into guard, dragging Jones to the mat.
Jones trying to control but Van Dam is working from the bottom.

Van Dam is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Jones defends well.
Van Dam keeping full guard, as Jones tries to pass.

Van Dam working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jones doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Van Dam is tightening it up a little... Jones has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Jones reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Jones taps out! nice BJJ there by Van Dam!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Jack Van Dam!
