Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between charles smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joseph Toombs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Joseph Toombs is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, charles smith! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joseph Toombs! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Chris Downing and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! smith feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. smith controls from within his opponent's guard. Toombs is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. smith trying to control but Toombs is working from the bottom. smith thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Toombs keeping full guard, as smith tries to pass. smith stops Toombs from standing up. smith trying to control the position from guard on top but Toombs is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. smith stands and throws Toombs's legs to the side, diving into side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. smith trying to control the position but Toombs is working away. smith tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Toombs tries to clinch there but smith circles away.
Toombs throws a head kick but smith moves out of range.
Toombs cracks a nice hook into smith's ribs. Toombs throws a head kick that smith semi-blocks.
Toombs throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Toombs shoots and misses and smith counters with a takedown into side control. smith is breathing heavily. Toombs managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by smith.
That's two minutes gone in the round. smith working the head with strikes. smith working away. smith working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. smith tries to score with some ground and pound. Toombs controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. smith is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Toombs knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. smith goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Toombs rolls with the submission and now he's on top in smith's guard! Nice work there by Toombs!
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Toombs forces his way into half guard. smith is trying to get back to full guard. Toombs is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so smith is just riding it out for now. Toombs eventually gives up the hold. smith is in trouble now - Toombs has advanced to mount!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. smith throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing. smith really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Toombs looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. smith is working to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Toombs is trying to stand up but he's being controlled by his opponent. smith regains half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
charles smith dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Toombs has his takedown stuffed and smith counters with a single leg into guard. Toombs didn't expect that. smith is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. smith wants to control from the top but Toombs keeps moving. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. smithis looking to pass into half guard but Toombs pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Toombs is in guard. smith not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. smith throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
smith is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Toombs defends well. smith wants to sweep here but Toombs controlling him for the moment. smith trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. smith takes a kick to the side of the head. Toombs lands a head kick. smith smiles back at him and beckons him forward. Toombs shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and smith counters with a takedown into side control. smith is trying to get an arm triangle but Toombs is defending well. You can see the frustration on Toombs's face as smith controls the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. smith is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Toombs has escaped the position, nice work there. smith sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Toombs is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
smith tries for a kimura but Toombs is defending well. charles smith overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. smith trying to control the position but Toombs is working away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Toombs managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by smith.
smith is looking to take a break and control but Toombs is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. smith taking a breather here. smith in side control lands a decent elbow.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. smith looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Toombs is avoiding damage well.
smith has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. smith trying to control the position but Toombs is working away. smith looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Toombs tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. smith blocks a head kick by Toombs.
smith shoots in but Toombs avoids the takedown attempt easily. Toombs pulls out of a head kick attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

smith fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Toombs uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before smith has time to react. Toombs throws a head kick that half lands.
Toombs throws a head kick that misses. Toombs shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Toombs got a little sloppy there for a moment and smith has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Toombs has managed to get both his arms back between smith's legs - danger averted. Toombs really doesn't want to stay on the ground with smith. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. smith escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Toombs gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! smith has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Toombs should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, smith has tightened it up now! Toombs should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
