Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Richard Dreyfus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Mir!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, George Francis and Robert Twigg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dreyfus tries to land a front kick but Mir steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Mir throws a nice looking combination but Dreyfus bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Richard Dreyfus seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mir checks a low kick from Dreyfus.
Dreyfus falls off balance throwing a combination
and Mir holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Mir jumps guard and drags Dreyfus to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dreyfus is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Mir really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dreyfus. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Dreyfus prevents Mir from getting back to his feet.
Mir seems keen to control Dreyfus's posture.
Mir working a defensive guard here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dreyfus is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Mir is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Mir has escaped and now he's on top!
Dreyfus escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mir gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Mir working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Mir stands up and waves to Dreyfus to follow him.
A punch combination from Mir misses.
Dreyfus lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Dreyfus looks to throw a body kick
and Mir holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Dreyfus can't get the takedown.
Mir has picked Dreyfus up - he's going for a ride! Mir dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Dreyfus looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Dreyfus actively working from the bottom here.
Dreyfus is breathing heavily.
Mir decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Dreyfus tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Mir counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Mir lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mir is pressing down on Dreyfus's thigh, looking to free his foot. Dreyfus is holding on for now.
Mir working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Mir wants to stand up but Dreyfus has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Mir takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Dreyfus has hold of Mir's hands but Mir slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Dreyfus is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Mir's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Mir's back!
Mir trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
Mir breaks Dreyfus's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Mir wants to stand but Dreyfus has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Dreyfus looking for a triangle here. Mir is fighting it but it looks tight! Dreyfus pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Mir is tapping out - this one is all over!
