Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Fred Portos! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Remigiusz Klajn! The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Daniel Blasius and Patrick Alders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Portos looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Klajn wants to stand and escape but Portos is having none of it. Klajn wants to sweep but no luck. Portos has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Klajn trying to control the position.
Klajn is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. Portos knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Klajn on the ground. Klajn has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Portos wants to stand but Klajn has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Portos stays in close to Klajn's body and controls the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Klajn trying to keep a closed guard but Portos is proving a slippery customer.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Portos throws a right and a left that Klajn avoids nicely. Klajn misses with a takedown and Portos counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Klajn! Klajn is desperately trying to improve his position but Portos has a good base and remains in mount. Portos controlling his opponent.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Portos jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Klajn is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Klajn and Portos has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Klajn wants to control but Portos postures up. Portos controlling from side mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Portos trying to control the position but Klajn is working away. Portos decides to stand back up. Portos shoots in and bounces Klajn off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Klajn wants to sweep but no luck. Klajn looks gassed! Klajn can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Portos controls the pace.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Klajn keeping moving, preventing Portos from controlling successfully. Portos is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Portos passes into half guard. Klajn won't allow Portos to pass to mount. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Portos trying to control the action but Klajn is working from the bottom. Klajn is looking for a sweep. Portos is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Fred Portos dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Klajn fails with the takedown and Portos counters with a takedown into side control. Klajn prevents Portos from improving position. Klajn struggling a bit here. Klajn is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Portos's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Klajn is breathing heavily. Portos performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Portos decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up. Portos closes the distance and clinches. Portos has clasped his hands together around Klajn's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Klajn tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Portos wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Klajn is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Portos is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Portos has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Klajn with a lazy takedown attempt and Portos counters with a nice double leg into side control. Klajn won't be happy with that. Klajn is letting Portos control him for a moment. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Portos is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Klajn is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Portos taking a breather here.
The referee stands the fighters back up. Fred Portos just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Portos drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Portos is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Klajn is trying to control the position but Portos postures up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Portos slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Portos wants to pass the guard but Klajn is keeping the position. Klajn should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Portos looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Portos wants to stand but Klajn has a closed guard, so he can't escape. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Fred Portos dominated that second round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!
Portos scores with a takedown into Klajn's guard. Portos drops back, looking for a kneebar! Klajn looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Klajn looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Klajn! Portos on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Portos tries to get out of the position. Portos tries to buck Klajn off but Klajn is having none of it. Portos struggling a bit here. Portos tries to get back to half guard but can't. Klajn wants to control but Portos is keeping him busy.
That's one minute gone in the round. Klajn takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Portos is looking for a sweep. Portos is working hard here to advance position.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Portos wants to stand but Klajn has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now. Portos trying to mount his opponent but Klajn defends it. Portos controlling the action here. Portos has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Portos tries to stand but can't do so whilst Klajn controls his leg. Fred Portos is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Klajn misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Well, if Portos is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
