The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maia drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Halliwell is trying to buck Maia off.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Halliwell throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Maia feints and as Halliwell raises his hands in defense, Maia changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Halliwell is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Halliwell really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Maia. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Halliwell can do anything to dispel that myth.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Halliwell is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Maia wants to pass the guard but Halliwell is keeping the position.

Halliwell tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Maia was well out of range. Poor timing from Halliwell.

Halliwell leaves Maia with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Halliwell throws an overhand right that lands on Maia's shoulder, as Maia tries to avoid the shot.
Halliwell throws out a leg kick but Maia moves out of range and Halliwell only half commits.
Halliwell is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Maia shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Halliwell fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Maia manages to avoid it.
Maia uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Halliwell.
Halliwell stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Halliwell wants it to stay on the feet.

Halliwell lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Maia circles away quickly and effectively.
Maia shoots in for a double leg but Halliwell sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Halliwell fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Maia manages to avoid it.

Halliwell throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Maia changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Halliwell tries to avoid it but Maia manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Halliwell to the ground. Halliwell escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Maia dodges the punch combination from Halliwell.

Maia decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Halliwell is trying to stand up here but Maia is controlling him well.
Halliwell is in trouble now - Maia has advanced to mount!

Maia is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Halliwell is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Halliwell flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Maia anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Halliwell and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Maia slips an arm under Halliwell chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Maia has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Maia is squeezing on Halliwell like an anaconda would it's prey. Halliwell fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!
