Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Saddam Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thijs De Groot (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smith is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Radbod Blank and Paul Aken.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
De Groot shoots in but no luck this time.
Smith is breathing heavily.
De Groot clinches up with Smith and pushes him back against the cage.
De Groot prevents the takedown attempt.
De Groot misses with the head strike.
Smith looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Still in the clinch, De Groot scores with a nice short uppercut.
Smith stops a takedown attempt from De Groot.
De Groot gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Smith regains guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

De Groot gets to his feet - Smith follows without any prompting.
De Groot darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
De Groot has taken the fight to the clinch.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
A nice glancing elbow lands by De Groot.
De Groot turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Check out the look on De Groot's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
De Groot has hold of Smith's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Smith tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - De Groot cranks the arm and Smith screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Smith, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:03 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Thijs De Groot!
