PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hugh Jack (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hugh Jack!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Peter Davis!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Alan Glass and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jack shoots in and drives through. Davis sprawls well.
Davis looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Jack pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Davis gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Jack counters with a nice uppercut.
Jack misses with a straight left.
Davis shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Jack is looking to clinch but Davis is avoiding it.
The fighters circling - Jack throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Some bone on bone action there as Davis checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
A clash of legs there as Davis blocks the low kick.
Jack fails with a takedown attempt.
Jack misses with a two punch combination.

A swing and a miss from Jack.
The fight stays on the outside here - Jack looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Jack swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Jack shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Davis counters by moving into the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hugh Jack. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jack is trying to drag Davis to the mat but Davis just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
A frustrated look appears on Jack's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Jack tries to break free but Davis pushes him back against the cage.
Jack wants to break free but Davis has control.
Jack is really struggling to find his range with his punches. Davis's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems.
Jack tries to circle away but Davis has him pinned against the cage.

Jack drags the fight down to the ground.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Davis trying to control the position from guard on top but Jack is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Davis looking to sit in guard and control but Jack gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Jack stands up from Davis's guard - Jack perhaps looking for a knockout.
Jack slips a jab from Davis.
Jack tries to clinch up but Davis circles away and keeps his distance.
A decent looking cross lands there for Jack.
Jack connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Davis momentarily.
Jack looks for the body kick but Davis saw that one coming.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Davis gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Davis is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Jack trying to control the position from guard on top but Davis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Jack missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Davis throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Jack escapes and throws Davis's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Davis pushes Jack away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Jack gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hugh Jack dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Jack throws out a loose jab but Davis uses good head movement to avoid it.
Davis lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Jack misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Davis closes the distance looking to clinch

and Jack counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Jack wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Davis wants to break the clinch but can't.
Jack has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jack can't break the clinch.
Davis jumps guard but Jack stands there with Davis around his waist. Davis gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Jack is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Jack wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Davis jumps guard but Jack stands there with Davis around his waist. Davis gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
A shot in the inside from Jack.
Jack wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Davis has him pressed against the cage.
Davis tries to score a body lock takedown but Jack shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Hugh Jack has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Peter Davis.
A short body shot lands from Jack as the two fighters clinch.
Jack tries to break the clinch but Davis is controlling the position.
Jack wants to get back to striking at distance but Davis won't allow it.
Davis tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Jack just stands there and leans against the cage.
Jack lands a shoulder strike.
Davis is trying to maintain a safe position but Jack gets an underhook and turns Davis into the cage.

Jack successfully pulls guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Davis trying to control but Jack is working from the bottom.
Davis is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Jack is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Davis trying to control the position from guard on top but Jack is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Jack pushes Davis off and scrambles back to his feet.
Jack works the jab nicely.

Jack shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Davis's guard.

Jack wants to stand but Davis has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Jack thows a big elbow that misses.
Jack pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Davis is keeping the position for now.

Jack stands up and waves to Davis to follow him.
Davis tries to close the distance and clinch but Jack swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Jack misses with a two punch combination.
Davis throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Jack.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Davis tries to clinch

Jack dodges the punch combination from Davis.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Davis shoots for a double leg takedown but Jack sprawls well. He's pushed Davis's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Jack tries to close the distance and clinch but Davis swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Jack lands a nice shot that snaps Davis's head back.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

and Davis counters with a two punch combo.

Jack gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Jack controls Davis momentarily but Davis frees himself.
Davis trying to control the position from guard on top but Jack is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Davis trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Davis must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Jack not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Davis trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Davis trying to control the position from guard on top but Jack is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Jack wants to stand and escape but Davis is having none of it.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Donk. Davis catches Jack right on the button with a cross.
No luck for Jack with that takedown attempt.

and Jack counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Davis!

Davis wants to try and get back to his feet.

Jack working for a submission but Davis is keeping him at bay.

Jack trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Davis really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Davis is squirming around, avoiding Jack's attempts to control the action.
Davis wants to get back to his feet.
Jack landing shots from mount.
Davis tries to hold on but Jack pushes him away.
Davis really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jack. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Jack looking to finish Davis with some ground and pound. This is bad for Davis!
A nice elbow there by Jack.

And that's the end of the fight!
Hugh Jack showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Jack has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
