The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Flett avoids the head kick by Smith.
Mike Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Flett lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Flett misses with a wild body shot. Flett scores with a one two! Smith had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
It looks like Mike Smith has been cut. Smith tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Flett is able to avoid easily. Smith scores with a slapping inside leg kick. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Smith on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. Smith gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Flett to score an easy takedown into full guard. Flett wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Flett stopping the sweep attempt from Smith. Smith preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Flett throws a big right hand that misses. Smith preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Smith working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Flett. Flett stands up over Smith, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Flett postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Flett tries to free his leg and advance position but Smith is retaining full guard. Flett has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Flett is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Smith is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Smith has escaped and now he's on top! Flett is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Flett has Smith pulled in close to control his posture. Smith tries to stand but Flett is controlling from the bottom.

Smith wants to control from the top but Flett keeps moving. Flett striking from the bottom here. Smith wants to get up but he can't break Flett's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Flett looking to hit a scissor sweep but Smith is one step ahead there.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Smith misses with a looping left. Smith lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Flett backs up against the cage.
It looks like Dan Flett has been cut. Smith bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Flett keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Smith throws a left and a right that both miss
and Flett counters with a straight right hand. Flett throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Smith throws a low kick but it's checked well by Flett. Smith misses with a wild combination.
Smith looks gassed! The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Flett avoids the head kick by Smith.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Smith walks into a left hand. Nice uppercut there from Flett. Smith walks into a straight right hand from Flett. Mike Smith is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Flett cracks Smith with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Nice body punch from Flett. Flett wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Dan Flett dominated that round. Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Flett swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Flett drops Smith with a beautiful combination! Smith stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Flett is looking for the KO!
Smith is rocked! Flett changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Smith looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Smith is still in real trouble! Can Flett finish him? Smith dodges the ground and pound from Flett. Flett looks up at the clock and then as Smith takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Flett smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Smith seems to have recovered his senses. Smith parries the strikes from Flett easily there. Flett is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Smith to escape.
Flett is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Smith is not content to let Flett control the position. Sloppy strikes there by Flett. Smith is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Flett working the strikes but Smith uses the opportunity to regain half guard. Flett frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Flett connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Flett thowing shots but they're missing. Flett throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Flett looking to control but Smith is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Flett lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Smith hang on?
That's two minutes gone in the round. Flett punching from mount but Smith doing a good job of avoiding damage. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Smith can do anything to dispel that myth. Flett looking for a guillotine from mount but Smith is having none of it. Flett swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Smith is now in Flett's guard. A big mistake from Flett there, giving up the dominant position! Smith wanted to stand there but Flett had control of the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Flett seems keen to control Smith's posture. Smith wants to stand but Flett has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Flett is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Flett tries to land a sweep but no joy.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Flett has his foot on Smith's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Smith works his way back into a safe position though. Flett looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Smith tries to stand but Flett is controlling from the bottom. Smith really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Flett. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Flett controlling the position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Flett shoots for a takedown but Smith saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. A left lands for Flett. Smith throws a leg kick that misses. A head kick misses from Smith. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Flett lands the left hand. A slow jab from Smith misses its intended target. Flett shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Flett wants to pass the guard but Smith is keeping the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Flett lands a couple of decent looking shots. Flett loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Flett scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Flett lands a couple of elbows. Flett drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Flett jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Flett lands a couple of elbows. Smith is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Smith can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Flett controls the pace. Smith preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Flett passes into half guard. Smith is not content to let Flett control the position. Flett winds up and cracks Smith with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Flett is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Flett thows a huge punch but Smith dodges it nicely.
Flett missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Flett throws a strike but Smith avoids it easily and moves to full guard. Flett looking to sit in guard and control but Smith gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Flett is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Dan Flett is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Flett tries to land a sweep but no joy. Smith trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Flett has control of Smith's left arm, preventing Smith from doing any damage.
And that's the end of the fight! Dan Flett showed his dominance in that final round. Well Flett has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
