May has chosen Gucci - I'm So Tired of You as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jalan May!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Nard Betker and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Russell closes the distance and clinches up with May, looking for a takedown. Russell pushes May against the cage but May circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Russell closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
May manages to get back to half guard.
Russell is looking to advance position but May won't allow it.

May is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Russell pulls his head out easily.
May gets back to full guard.
May is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Russell with a flurry of punches that miss.
Russell missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
May keeping full guard, as Russell tries to pass.
Russell throws a big right hand that misses.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Russell darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

May works his way to full guard. Good work.
Russell slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
May wants to stand but Russell is controlling the position.
Russell wants to control from the top but May keeps moving.

May has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Russell off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Russell shoots for a double leg takedown but May sprawls well. He's pushed Russell's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Russell throws a low kick but May avoids it.
May shoots in and drives through. Russell sprawls well.
May slaps away a takedown attempt from Russell, before circling back to the center of the mat.

May moves in looking to clinch but Russell pushes him off.
May tries a head kick but it misses.

Russell shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. May is trying to defend but Russell finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

May is looking for a sweep. Russell is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Russell is trying to control the action in half guard but May is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
May wants to get back to his feet.
May gets full guard.

May wants to stand up but Russell is controlling him.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Russell has his takedown stuffed

and May holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
May is trying to force a seperation but Russell has the dominant position.
May can't find room to land a body shot as Russell controls the action.
Russell goes for a takedown in the clinch but May prevents it.
May has had enough of the clinch but Russell keeps him there for the moment.
May jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Russell walks away with a smile on his face. May gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
May scores with a three punch combo!
Russell gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and May counters with a left and a right that stings Russell.
Russell avoids the head kick by May.
May looks for the body kick but Russell saw that one coming.
May misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

and Russell counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for May!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Russell throwing strikes here but May is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Russell unloads with some shots from mount but May bucks and avoids them well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Russell avoids the attempt from May to control.
May slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
May gets back to full guard.
May is trying to keep Russell in close.

May is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Russell defends well.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
May looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Russell dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Russell closes the distance and clinches up with May, looking for a takedown. Russell pushes May against the cage but May circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

May shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Russell manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Russell is striking from the bottom but May uses the opportunity to pass into half guard.

May looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

May is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Russell defends it well.

Russell is not content to let May control the position.
May not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
May seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Russell does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Russell wants to control but May is keeping busy and won't allow it.

May scores with a jab to the body.
Russell tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but May swivels and escapes.

May tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Russell has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. May is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

May breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

May wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Russell throwing strikes but missing.
Russell postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Russell trying to control but May is working from the bottom.
Jack Russell overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
May is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Russell tries to clinch up.

Jalan May showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



May shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Russell napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Russell regains half guard.

Russell looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
May has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
May wants to control the pace but Russell is squirming around nicely.
Russell is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

May tries to control but Russell wriggling away.
Russell tries to reverse the position but May maintains control.
May wants to control the pace but Russell is squirming around nicely.
May takes Russell's back.
A lull in the action here.
May has good solid back control here.
Russell has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
May throwing wild punches that miss their target.

May is looking for the choke from the back position but Russell is controlling his hands well.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

May patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
May is striking well from the back but Russell escapes and manages to control the positon and works his way to half guard. A much better position - the crisis is over for the time being.
Russell wants to get back to full guard but May has mounted him!

The fighters are battling for position here. Russell manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Jalan May comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well May has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
