PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ruben Calderin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mc Scrappy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mc Scrappy will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ruben Calderin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mc Scrappy!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A slapping body kick lands there for Calderin.
Calderin throws a nice head kick!
Calderin stuffs the takedown.
Scrappy tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Calderin swivels and escapes.
Calderin slaps away a takedown attempt from Scrappy, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Ruben Calderin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mc Scrappy.

Scrappy gets caught flat footed, as Calderin shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Calderin wants to control from the top but Scrappy keeps moving.

Calderin will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Calderin is in close to Scrappy's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Calderin has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Scrappy has his takedown stuffed

and Calderin counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Calderin.
Scrappy tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Calderin just stands there and leans against the cage.
Calderin gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Scrappy tries to pull guard but Calderin won't allow it.
Scrappy jumps guard but Calderin stands there with Scrappy around his waist. Scrappy gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Calderin has clasped his hands together around Scrappy's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Scrappy is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Calderin pulls his head out easily.

Calderin is taking a breather. Scrappy says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Scrappy tries to get to full guard but Calderin has control of the leg.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Calderin connects with a nice short shot to Scrappy's temple.
Scrappy is trying to get back to full guard.
Scrappy is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Calderin looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Calderin shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Calderin showed some decent athleticism there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Calderin seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Scrappy does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Scrappy should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Scrappy wants to control but Calderin is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Scrappy is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Calderin's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Calderin's back!

Scrappy wants to lay and pray for a moment but Calderin keeps working.

Scrappy doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Calderin counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Scrappy tries to score a power double leg takedown but Calderin sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Scrappy somewhat.
Scrappy shoots in for a takedown but Calderin shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Calderin shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Scrappy is trying to defend but Calderin finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Calderin is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Scrappy can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Ruben Calderin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Calderin is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Scrappy with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Mc Scrappy has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Calderin tries to lock up and control but Scrappy gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Scrappy is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Calderin has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Calderin!

Scrappy looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Calderin is defending well. Scrappy quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Calderin has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Scrappy celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
