PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ren Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gracie comes into the arena with Wu-Tang Clan - Protect Ya Neck blaring out of the sound system. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ren Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jimmy Jackson!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Dmitry Maklakov and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie throws a leg kick but Jackson sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Gracie looks to land a right hand but Jackson moved out of range.
Jackson feints and then cracks Gracie's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Gracie down.
Jackson misses with a head kick.
Gracie just misses with a punch to the body.
Jackson misses with a head kick.
Gracie thows a body shot but no joy.
Jackson tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Gracie throws a series of punches but Jackson avoids them all with ease.
Gracie blocks a head kick by Jackson.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gracie throws a leg kick that is checked

and Jackson counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Jackson.
Jackson tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Gracie is trying to drag Jackson to the mat but Jackson just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Gracie manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Jackson controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Jackson wanted to stand there but Gracie had control of the position.
Gracie is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Gracie lands strikes from half guard.
Jackson is in trouble now - Gracie has advanced to mount!
Gracie wants to take his opponent's back but Jackson doesn't allow it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gracie fails to move to back control.
Jackson tries to hold on but Gracie postures up.

Gracie has hold of Jackson's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Jackson manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Gracie is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Jackson has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Jackson!
Jackson wants to stand but Gracie is controlling his posture from full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jackson trying to control but Gracie is working from the bottom.
Gracie is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Jackson has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Gracie is proving hard to escape from.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Gracie, as that shot connected.
Gracie throws a hook to the side of Jackson's head but Jackson sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Gracie pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Gracie throws a big shot that misses.
Jimmy Jackson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Gracie throws a leg kick that is checked
and Jackson counters with a slapping leg kick.

Jackson clinches.
Jackson with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Jackson scores with a knee to the head.


It looks like Ren Gracie has been cut.

Jackson is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Gracie has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Jackson avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jimmy Jackson dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Ren Gracie's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Jackson clinches up with Gracie and pushes him back against the cage.
Jackson keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Gracie's efforts to push away.
Jackson tries to land knees in the clinch but Gracie avoids the damage to the body.

Gracie ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Gracie no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Jackson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Gracie is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Jackson wants to pass the guard but Gracie is keeping the position.

Gracie has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Jackson tries to stand but Gracie is controlling from the bottom.

Jackson gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Ren Gracie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gracie throws a jab when Jackson was well out of range.
Gracie connects with a jab.
Jackson tries to clinch there but Gracie circles away.
Gracie cracks Jackson with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Gracie missing with a left hand there. Jackson was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Gracie misses with a looping right.
Gracie lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Gracie lands a jab to Jackson's midsection.
Jackson is breathing heavily.
Gracie waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Jackson.

Jackson slips a straight right by Gracie.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Jackson.
A jab from Gracie finds it's way through Jackson's defenses.


Jackson is rocked!
Gracie looks to land a left hand but Jackson moved out of range nicely.
Gracie is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Jackson.
Gracie throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Jackson uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Gracie.
Jackson tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gracie throws the left hand but Jackson avoids the punch easily.
Nice defenses there by Jackson.

Gracie shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Gracie stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jackson swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Gracie in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Gracie trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Jackson manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
Gracie pulls Jackson in close to prevent any damage.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


A telegraphed right hand from Gracie misses the target.
Gracie looks to land a right hand but Jackson moved out of range.
Jackson doesn't manage to clinch there - Gracie circles away.
Ren Gracie is winning the standup battle so far.
Gracie fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
A jab from Gracie finds it's way through Jackson's defenses.
Nice uppercut there from Gracie.
Gracie looks to throw the jab but Jackson is out of range.
Jackson does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Jackson tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Jackson defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Gracie.
Gracie cracks Jackson with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Jackson is still on wobbly legs! Can Gracie finish him?
Jackson moves away from the strike by Gracie.
Jackson seems to have recovered his senses.

Gracie misses with an uppercut.
Jackson bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Jackson lands a high kick!
Jackson throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Jackson feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Gracie's calf.
Jackson misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Jackson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Jackson - that will leave a mark!
Jackson connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Jackson closes the distance and pushes Gracie back into the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jackson is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Gracie gets control of Jackson's arms and successfully pulls guard. Gracie will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Jackson wanted to stand there but Gracie had control of the position.

Gracie has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Jackson should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Gracie has tightened it up now! Jackson should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
