Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of

0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Julio Romerio! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Newman ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Romerio moves away. Romerio fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Newman avoids it really well and circles away. Romerio uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Newman. Newman scores with the left hand. Romerio knows he should have avoided that one. Romerio takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Newman throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Martin Newman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Romerio looks gassed! Newman scores with a takedown into Romerio's guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Newman thows a big elbow that misses. Newman sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Romerio's guard. Newman thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Romerio's head. Newman is nestled in close to Romerio, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Romerio wants to stand and escape but Newman is having none of it. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Newman accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Newman throws a strike but Romerio rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Newman stuffs the takedown attempt from Romerio. Romerio gets slowly back to his feet. Romerio shoots in looking for a takedown. Newman tries to sprawl out of it but Romerio keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Romerio shoots for a double leg takedown but Newman sprawls well. He's pushed Romerio's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Newman tries to hold on but Romerio pushes him away. Romerio can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Newman is looking to escape. Romerio takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Martin Newman. Well Newman has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win...
