PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Grandparets Son (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cesar Rodriguez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Grandparets Son!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Cesar Rodriguez!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Felipe Paraventi and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rodriguez tries to close the distance and clinch but Son swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Rodriguez has managed to clinch.
Rodriguez tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Son just stands there and leans against the cage.
Son wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Rodriguez working hard to break the clinch.
Rodriguez wants to break free but Son has control.
Son tries to pull guard but Rodriguez won't allow it.

Son breaks the clinch.
Son tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Rodriguez paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Son fails with a takedown attempt.
Son will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Son shoots in for a takedown but Rodriguez shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Grandparets Son. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rodriguez shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Son defends it nicely.
Rodriguez closes the distance and clinches up with Son, looking for a takedown. Rodriguez pushes Son against the cage but Son circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Nice sprawl there from Son as Rodriguez shoots in.
Son throws a series of punches but Rodriguez avoids them all with ease.
Son is breathing heavily.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Rodriguez.
Rodriguez in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Rodriguez landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Rodriguez is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Son's shoulder. That is not cool.

Son is trying to get back to half guard.
Rodriguez is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Rodriguez in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Rodriguez lands a decent elbow from side control.
Son tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Son wants to hold on but Rodriguez pushes him away.
Rodriguez landing punches.

Rodriguez looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Son swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rodriguez tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Son really wants to buck Rodriguez off and get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rodriguez putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!

Rodriguez has hold of Son's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Son manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Rodriguez takes Son's back, avoiding a couple of desperation strikes from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Son holding both Rodriguez 's hands and preventing any damage.
I would not like to be Son right now.
Rodriguez landing with strikes.
Son is in bad spot here.
Rodriguez has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Son.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cesar Rodriguez dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Rodriguez fails with the takedown.
Son misses with a looping left.
Son fails in his attempt to clinch.
Son keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Son shoots in but Rodriguez avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Son tries for a takedown but Rodriguez sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Rodriguez takes the fight into the clinch.
Son tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Rodriguez avoids it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rodriguez jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Son walks away with a smile on his face. Rodriguez gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Grandparets Son has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cesar Rodriguez.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Rodriguez shoots in and bounces Son off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Son working a defensive guard here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Son is looking to stand back up but Rodriguez counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Son.
Son tries to kick Rodriguez off but Rodriguez keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Son is trying to get back to full guard.
Rodriguez not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Son is looking to escape.
Rodriguez not doing much here.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Son throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Son takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Rodriguez shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Rodriguez content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Rodriguez has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Son defend it? Rodriguez steps over the head and cranks it - Son is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Rodriguez!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Cesar Rodriguez!
