The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cuba shoots in but no luck this time. Nice takedown defense from Rogers. No joy for Cuba on that attempt. Rogers tries to clinch up. Cuba scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Rogers trying to control here.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Rogers can do anything to dispel that myth. Cuba is looking for a kimura but Rogers is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Cuba to get the leverage. Cuba is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Rogers blocking the ground and pound attempt from Cuba.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cuba is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Cuba is working for a submission of some sort.
Rogers is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Cuba pulls his head out easily. Rogers is looking for a sweep. Cuba is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Cuba scoring with strikes to the body and head. Cuba seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Cuba seems to be looking for submissions.
Rogers is looking to control Cuba's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Rogers avoid being mounted? Cuba is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Rogers doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Cuba. Rogers trying to control here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cuba throws a strike but Rogers avoids it easily and moves to full guard. Cuba drops back, looking for a kneebar! Rogers looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Rogers looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Rogers! Rogers fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Rogers decides to stand up, so the ref orders Cuba to his feet. Rogers shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Cuba is trying to defend but Rogers finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rogers stalling away here and it's allowed Cuba to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. Cuba doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Cuba managing to control the position. Rogers wants to control from the top but Cuba keeps moving. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Borje Cuba dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Rogers fails with the takedown so Cuba counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Cuba postures up.
Cuba loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Cuba works a leg free and moves into half guard. Cuba passes to full mount! Cuba working away from the top, dropping strikes. Cuba has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Cuba is working for a guillotine from mount but Rogers frees his head quite easily.
Cuba looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Rogers keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rogers is bucking up trying to escape but Cuba cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Rogers is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Cuba is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Rogers is forced to tap! Great finish!
