Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mateusz Szmidt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rustam Borisov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mateusz Szmidt! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rustam Borisov! The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Eddie Farnsworth and Columbo Gatti.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Szmidt tries to clinch up but Borisov circles away and keeps his distance. Szmidt avoids a punch combination nicely.
Borisov gets caught flat footed, as Szmidt shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Szmidt is looking to stand up but Borisov won't let him. Szmidt is stalling in the full guard. Borisov is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. Szmidt has picked Borisov up - he's going for a ride! Szmidt dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Szmidt trying to pass the guard but Borisov defending well. Szmidt stands up and beckons Borisov to join him on the feet. Szmidt shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Szmidt goes for an armbar but Borisov turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Borisov. Borisov throwing strikes but missing. Szmidt has a closed guard, preventing Borisov from standing up. Borisov working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Borisov has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Szmidt is proving hard to escape from. Szmidt has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Borisov wants to get up but he can't break Szmidt's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Szmidt keeping moving, preventing Borisov from controlling successfully. Borisov postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Borisov looks to land a combination. Szmidt sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots. Szmidt shoots in for a takedown but Borisov shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Szmidt is breathing heavily. Szmidt shoots in but no luck this time. Borisov doesn't succeed with the takedown and Szmidt counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Borisov! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Borisov tries to hold on but Szmidt postures up. Szmidt breaks from Borisov's wrist control and lands an elbow. Borisov regains half guard. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Szmidt wants to get back to his feet.
Still in half guard, Szmidt seems content to control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Borisov is trying to stand back up but Szmidt is controlling him
Borisov is looking for a sweep. Szmidt is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Szmidt is taking a breather. Borisov says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Szmidt prevents Borisov from standing back up.
Szmidt content to control rather than advance. Szmidt wants to pass to mount but Borisov is defending the position. Borisov pushes Szmidt off looking to stand but Szmidt dives back in and keeps control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mateusz Szmidt dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Szmidt shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Borisov trying to control the position.
Szmidt decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Szmidt is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Borisov's half guard. Borisov wants to improve his position but Szmidt is controlling well.
Szmidt throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Borisov gets back to full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round. Szmidt trying to control but Borisov is working from the bottom. Szmidt advances position into side control! Borisov is trying to get back to half guard. Szmidt is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Szmidt lands a nice forearm strike.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Szmidt stands up and we're back to a striking position. Borisov forces Szmidt back against the cage and clinches. Szmidt avoiding damage as Borisov throws knees to the body.
Borisov tries to break the clinch but Szmidt is controlling the position. Borisov fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Szmidt jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Borisov walks away with a smile on his face. Szmidt gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Szmidt gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Borisov counters with a single leg into guard. Szmidt didn't expect that. Szmidt is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Borisov throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Borisov looking to sit in guard and control but Szmidt gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Szmidt passes Borisov's left leg - he's now in half guard. Szmidt seems to be working for a kimura but Borisov defends the submission attempt. Szmidt tries to pass the half guard into mount. Borisov knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. That was a close second round but I would say that Mateusz Szmidt will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!
Borisov looks to clinch and Szmidt counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Szmidt. Szmidt keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Borisov's efforts to push away. Borisov tries to pull guard but Szmidt won't allow it.
Szmidt changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Borisov fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Szmidt has Borisov pressed against the cage, preventing Borisov from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Borisov has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Borisov is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Borisov looking to throw knees to the head but Szmidt is blocking nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round. Borisov shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Szmidt as he jumps to the side. Szmidt changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Borisov looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Borisov prevents Szmidt from moving into mount. Borisov is looking for a sweep. Szmidt decides to stand back up. Szmidt steps back and let's Borisov get back to his feet. Szmidt blocks the body kick.
Szmidt shoots and misses and Borisov holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Borisov is looking to break free of the clinch but Szmidt has double underhooks. Borisov is trying to break free. Borisov has had enough of the clinch but Szmidt keeps him there for the moment. Borisov tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Szmidt smiles and moves away.
Mateusz Szmidt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rustam Borisov. Szmidt closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Borisov did well to prevent Szmidt getting side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Borisov gets full guard. Szmidt wants to get up but he can't break Borisov's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Borisov is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Borisov is on top in guard.
Borisov wants to stand but Szmidt is controlling his posture from full guard.
And that's the end of the fight! Mateusz Szmidt showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Szmidt, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
