Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Zac Jefferson! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Matt Hughes! The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Robert Twigg and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hughes keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Jefferson shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Excellent takedown into side control there by Hughes. Jefferson tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hughes wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Hughes is trying to get an arm triangle but Jefferson is defending well. Hughes in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Hughes really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jefferson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hughes is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Jefferson has escaped the position, nice work there. Hughes tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. You can see the frustration on Jefferson's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Jefferson manages to get back to half guard. Jefferson gets back to full guard.
Hughes trying to control the position from guard on top but Jefferson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Jefferson has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Hughes should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Jefferson has tightened it up now! Hughes should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
