Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jose Luis Cantero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Muay Plata (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cantero comes into the arena with La mandanga blaring out of the sound system. Plata has chosen Creeping Death as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Jose Luis Cantero! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Muay Plata! The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Shigeki Fujiwara and Shigeki Sano.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cantero avoids the head kick by Plata.
Cantero scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Cantero working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Cantero thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Cantero trying to control the action but Plata is working from the bottom. Cantero tries for a kimura but Plata is defending well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cantero tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Cantero has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Cantero wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Plata, who protects the arm well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Cantero is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Plata is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Cantero wants to control but Plata is keeping him busy. Cantero tries to move to mount but Plata blocks the move with his legs. Cantero trying to control the position but Plata is working away.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Cantero throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Plata's waist but Plata gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Cantero off to one side. Plata scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction. Plata stuffs the takedown. Plata throws a head kick that half lands.
Cantero shoots in and drives through. Plata sprawls well. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jose Luis Cantero. That's going to take a lot out of him. Cantero takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
This has been an exciting period of action! Cantero changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Plata tries to avoid it but Cantero manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Plata to the ground. Plata escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Cantero is breathing heavily. Cantero fails with a takedown attempt. Plata leaves Cantero with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Plata pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. A nice leg kick lands there from Plata.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cantero misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Cantero takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Plata pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Muay Plata seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Cantero throws a right and a left that Plata avoids nicely. Plata stuffs the takedown attempt from Cantero. Cantero gets slowly back to his feet. Cantero misses with a jab, cross combination.
Plata lands with a shot to the body. Plata plants his feet and lands a nice head kick! Plata misses with a two punch combination.
Plata lands with a kick to the temple. Cantero shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Plata lands a nice looking body shot.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Plata, right into the meat.
Plata takes a swing at Cantero's ribcage but misses. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Muay Plata dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky. Cantero will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Cantero gets a takedown into half guard. Cantero is looking for a kimura here.
Cantero is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Plata is not content to let Cantero control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cantero is trying to work for a kimura but Plata is defending well.
Cantero is trying to control the action in half guard but Plata is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Plata avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Cantero. Cantero is looking to advance position but Plata won't allow it. Cantero seems to be looking for submissions.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Plata throws a sloppy head kick and Cantero moves out of range easily. Cantero closes the distance and clinches up with Plata, looking for a takedown. Cantero pushes Plata against the ropes but Plata circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Plata rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Cantero moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Plata misses with a head kick.
Plata thows a body kick. Cantero tries to catch it but that hurt him. Cantero shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Plata napping and manages to drive through into side control! Cantero trying to control the position but Plata is working away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cantero tries to advance to mount but Plata denies him.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Cantero sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Plata is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Cantero tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Cantero tries to advance position but instead Plata slips a leg back in to half guard. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Cantero is working for a kimura but Plata is defending it quite comfortably.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jose Luis Cantero dominated that second round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!
Cantero fails with a takedown attempt. A head kick from Plata lands but Cantero takes it in his stride. Cantero shoots in looking for a takedown. Plata tries to sprawl out of it but Cantero keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Plata manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Cantero will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jose Luis Cantero. That's going to take a lot out of him. Plata swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Cantero counters with a single leg into guard. Plata didn't expect that. Cantero drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Plata manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Cantero has Plata in his guard. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Cantero tries to land a sweep but no joy.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cantero is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Plata defends well. Cantero is looking for a triangle here but Plata uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Cantero is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cantero is trying to control Plata's posture but Plata avoids it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Cantero tries to improve position but can't. Cantero is working hard here to advance position. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jose Luis Cantero. I think Cantero has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
