PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mateusz Lewandowski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Haigh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lewandowski comes to the cage accompanied by Bezimienni - Walka. Dan Haigh told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Mateusz Lewandowski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Dan Haigh!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Andrew Berry and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Haigh is looking to land body kicks.
Lewandowski shoots in looking for a takedown. Haigh tries to sprawl out of it but Lewandowski keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Haigh manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Haigh shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Haigh showed some decent athleticism there.
Haigh not doing much here.

Haigh is looking for a kimura here.
Lewandowski is trying to escape back to his feet but Haigh uses the scramble to pass into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Haigh fails to land a wild elbow strike.

Haigh stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Haigh fails with the takedown.
A combination from Haigh does no damage.
Lewandowski shoots in for a double leg but Haigh sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Haigh decides to stand back up. Haigh steps back and let's Lewandowski get back to his feet.
Haigh keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Haigh darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Haigh stands up and beckons Lewandowski to join him on the feet.
Lewandowski leaves Haigh with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

and Haigh counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Haigh.

Lewandowski drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Haigh gets the underhooks and prevents it.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Haigh is on top in guard.

Haigh is pressed up against the cage. Lewandowski has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Haigh down to the mat. Haigh avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

so Haigh counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Lewandowski is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Haigh has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Lewandowski is proving hard to escape from.
Haigh really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lewandowski. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Dan Haigh showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Lewandowski's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Haigh passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Lewandowski!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lewandowski is looking to improve his position but Haigh isn't that keen on the idea.

Dan Haigh comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Haigh has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
