PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Keith Stone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Larry Riley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Riley has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Keith Stone has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Keith Stone!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Larry Riley!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stone fails with a takedown attempt.
Stone avoids the body shot from Riley.
Stone tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Stone shoots for a takedown but Riley saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Stone has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Stone there as he acknowledges the shot.
Stone has a takedown stuffed.

Riley stuffs the takedown.
Riley moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Larry Riley seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Riley connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Riley throws a shot from downtown. Stone moves away and avoids it.
Riley walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Stone checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Stone drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Stone throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Riley's waist but Riley gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Stone off to one side.
Riley lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
A left lands for Riley.
Stone fails in his attempt to clinch.
Riley closes the distance and clinches up with Stone, looking for a takedown. Riley pushes Stone against the cage but Stone circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Riley looks gassed!
Riley slaps away a takedown attempt from Stone, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Stone checks the leg kick nicely there.
Stone shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Riley pinned against the cage. Riley gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Riley displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Stone.
Riley fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Riley, right into the meat.
Stone walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
A nice leg kick lands there from Riley.

Riley shoots in and bounces Stone off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Stone escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Riley gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Stone will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Riley wants to get up but he can't break Stone's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Stone wants to get back to his feet but Riley is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Stone is working an open guard so Riley takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Stone shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Stone walks into a stiff left hand from Riley.
Riley connects with a body shot.
Riley buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Stone shoots in for a double leg but Riley sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Riley lands with a right hand.
Riley keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Stone gets caught flat footed, as Riley shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Riley really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Stone. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Riley got a little sloppy there for a moment and Stone has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Riley has managed to get both his arms back between Stone's legs - danger averted.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stone can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Riley controls the pace.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Stone has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Riley can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Riley's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Riley stands and steps away. Stone gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Riley feints and then cracks Stone's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Stone down.
A jab lands there for Riley.
Stone moves in looking to clinch but Riley pushes him off.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Stone.
Riley misses with a body kick.
Stone misses with a straight right.

Riley darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Stone tries to kick Riley off but Riley keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Riley seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Riley wants to stand but Stone has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Stone shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Riley feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Stone's calf.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Riley misses with a kick to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Stone tries to clinch up but Riley circles away and keeps his distance.
Stone takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Riley slips a jab and a cross from Stone.

Riley throws a right hand that Stone ducks under and follows up with a left that Stone also avoids with ease.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Riley, right into the meat.
Stone is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Riley avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Riley takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Riley lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Stone backs up against the cage.
Stone moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Riley fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Stone on the side of the head.
Riley lands an overhand right.
Stone doesn't manage to clinch there - Riley circles away.
Stone stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Riley drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Riley has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Stone is proving hard to escape from.
Riley slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Stone is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Riley defends well.

Stone shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Riley sprawls well. Riley wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Stone gets slowly back to his feet.

Riley thuds his right hand into Stone's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Riley lands with a straight right. Stone didn't see that one coming.
Riley fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Stone looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Stone looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.
Riley connects with a good right hand that stumbles Stone. Stone circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Riley leaves Stone with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Riley feints and then cracks Stone's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Stone down.

Stone's corner calls for a 1-2. Stone obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Larry Riley showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Stone shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Riley but Riley pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Riley jabs Stone right on the nose. Stone blinks but takes it well.
Riley swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Horrible takedown by Stone or perhaps it was just good defense by Riley which made him look bad.
This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Stone. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.
Riley connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Larry Riley is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Good leg kick by Riley there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Stone wants to clinch but Riley slips to the side

Stone has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Riley should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Stone has tightened it up now! Riley should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
