PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rashawn Curry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robison Gouveia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Seu Braga and Edson Gomes.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gouveia just misses with a punch to the body.

Curry closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Curry lands in his opponent's guard.

Gouveia is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Curry is aware though and is defending well.
Curry sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Gouveia's guard.
Gouveia tries to roll over but Curry keeps him under control.

Curry uses his free foot to push down on Gouveia's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Gouveia.
Curry can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Gouveia is looking to escape.

Curry is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Gouveia is surviving well by controlling Curry's body position as best he can.

Curry wants to work for an arm triangle but Gouveia is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Curry thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Curry drops back looking for a leg! Gouveia is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Gouveia manages to kick Curry off! Curry jumps back into Gouveia's guard.

Gouveia has his foot on Curry's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Curry works his way back into a safe position though.
Gouveia wants to stand up but Curry is controlling him.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Curry thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Gouveia swings for the body but Curry moves out of range.
Curry uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Gouveia.
Curry avoids the body shot from Gouveia.
Gouveia throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Curry shoots in looking for a takedown. Gouveia tries to sprawl out of it but Curry keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Gouveia manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Gouveia fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Robison Gouveia seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Curry shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Gouveia as he avoids it easily.
Curry will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Curry tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Gouveia swivels and escapes.

Curry gets the takedown into side control.
Curry is breathing heavily.
Gouveia sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Gouveia is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Curry looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Curry is keen to just control but Gouveia is a slippery customer.

That was a close round but I would say that Rashawn Curry will probably get the nod.

Curry ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Curry gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
A frustrated look appears on Gouveia's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Gouveia has a couple of punches blocked by Curry.
Gouveia has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Gouveia is trying to break the clinch but Curry has him pressed against the cage.
Curry jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Gouveia walks away with a smile on his face. Curry gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Nice sprawl there from Gouveia as Curry shoots in.
Gouveia lands with an uppercut that bounces Curry off the cage and back into rage.
Gouveia throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Gouveia slaps away a takedown attempt from Curry, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Gouveia wants to improve his position but Curry is controlling well.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Gouveia content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Curry has locked up a guillotine! Curry's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Gouveia is holding on here and Curry must be using up a lot of energy. Gouveia has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Curry gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
