PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between John Matua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin Lynch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Kevin Lynch was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, John Matua!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Kevin Lynch!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Johanna Lukiainen and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown by Lynch or perhaps it was just good defense by Matua which made him look bad.
Lynch fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Lynch closes the distance and clinches.

Lynch has hold of one of Matua's legs. Matua is fighting the takedown attempt but Lynch gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Lynch prevents Matua from getting back to his feet.
Lynch missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Lynch postures up in Matua's guard and throws a big left but Matua blocks it.

Lynch gets to his feet - Matua follows without any prompting.
Matua is breathing heavily.
Lynch closes the distance and clinches up with Matua, looking for a takedown. Lynch pushes Matua against the cage but Matua circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
John Matua has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kevin Lynch.
A head kick misses from Lynch.
Lynch throws a head kick but Matua moves out of range.
Matua scores with a one two! Lynch had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Matua ducks under a wild hook from Lynch.
Matua throws a head kick but Lynch moves out of range.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Matua goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

Lynch darts in and clinches Matua up against the cage.
Lynch tries to break free but Matua pushes him back against the cage.
Lynch tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Lynch breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Matua gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Lynch to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Lynch stands and steps away. Matua gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Matua misses with a jab, cross combination.
Lynch waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Matua.
Matua bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Lynch scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Lynch not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Lynch thows a huge punch but Matua dodges it nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Lynch takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Lynch throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Lynch has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Lynch looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Matua with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Lynch missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Matua is not content to let Lynch control the position.
Lynch lands strikes from half guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Lynch closes the distance and clinches.
Matua is trying to break the clinch but Lynch is controlling him.
Matua really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Matua can't break the clinch.

Lynch has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Matua clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
This has been an exciting period of action!

Lynch patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Matua wants to get back to his feet.
Lynch lands an elbow to the side of the head.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Matua looking very determined here, making life difficult for Lynch.
Lynch scores with punches and elbows.
Lynch lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Lynch.
Lynch struggling to keep hold of the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Lynch is working the ground and pound. Can Matua escape?

Lynch has the hooks in and he's looking for a rear naked choke here. Matua is defending well but eventually Lynch manages to get an arm under the chin and he's locked on the RNC! Matua has no choice but to tap now! He does! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Kevin Lynch!
