Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jimmy Joe! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Joseph Stalin! The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Fedor Mirinova and Valeri Chadov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Joe fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Stalin tries to clinch but Joe is having none of it. Stalin displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Joe. Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Joe. Stalin fails with an attempt to clinch.
Joe closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Joe taking a breather here. Joe in side control lands a decent elbow. Stalin is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Joe is controlling him well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Joe decides to take the fight back to the feet. Joe throws a sloppy head kick and Stalin moves out of range easily. Joe avoids the head kick by Stalin.
Stalin fails with an attempt to clinch.
Stalin tries to close the distance and clinch but Joe swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Stalin rushes Joe and presses him up against the cage. Joe breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Stalin lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Joe circles away quickly and effectively. Stalin wants to clinch up but Joe keeps it at a distance. Stalin goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Nice defenses there by Stalin. Stalin avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Stalin is looking to clinch. Excellent takedown into side control there by Joe.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Joe decides to stand back up. Joe steps back and let's Stalin get back to his feet. Stalin throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Joe fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Stalin sprawls well initially but Joe persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Joe is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Joe is breathing heavily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Joe not landing any meaningful shots this time. Joe wants to pass the guard but Stalin is defending well. Joe is taking a breather. Stalin says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Stalin wants to get back to his feet.
Joe stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Stalin to get to his feet. Stalin is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Stalin closes the distance looking to clinch and Joe counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jimmy Joe dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Stalin closes the distance and clinches. Joe drags the fight down to the ground.
Stalin would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Joe is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Stalin rolls with it to try and escape but Joe cranks on the arm and Stalin is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
